Pigeon Shoot!
THE annual Inter-Provincial clay
of Cumberland and Westmorland
at Penrith and District Gun Club.
West Lancashire were the
winners, with our Province a
creditable second, after providing
a good representation on what was
a fine autumn day, and Cumberland
and Westmoreland third.
After a shoot off against William
Watson, of Doric Lodge No 2695,
the winner of the Lawson Trophy
and our Province’s high gun, was
Michael Buck, of Airedale Lodge
No 387.
A lunch and prize presentation
was held at The Stoney Beck Inn
for Masonic charities.
This year’s competition will be
hosted by Yorkshire, West Riding
during 2012.
Prestonian Lecturer travels the
globe to support local charities
THREE years after he began his 2009
Prestonian Lectures, W Bro Dr John Wade
has raised a remarkable £13,250, which
has been split between Cavendish Cancer
Care and Masonic Research in Sheffield.
After an intensive and at times frenetic
itinerary which took him from Vancouver to
Sydney as well as all over the UK, John, a
Past Master at Lodges in Yorkshire, West
Riding and Derbyshire, has finally ended
his lecture tour.
“Go and do Likewise; English Masonic
Processions from the 18th to the 20th
Centuries,” was the title of his lecture,
first presented at Britannia Lodge No 139,
Tapton Hall, Sheffield in April 2009 and
attended by PGM John Clayton and his
Derbyshire counterpart Graham Rudd,
together with seven other Rulers and
almost 200 Masons!
John commented on “a wonderful
experience representing United Grand
HAIGH FARM SHOP LTD.
Far Common Road, Mirfield, WF14 0DQ
Lodge as their Prestonian Lecturer, and
visiting so many Lodges, Provinces,
Districts and Constitutions across the
Masonic world, and at the same time
raising money for charitable purposes.”
The vital funds that Cavendish Cancer
Care has received from Dr Wade will help
people in South Yorkshire and North East
Derbyshire cope with the effects of living
with cancer. Each year Cavendish Cancer
Care sees more and more people seeking
care and support, and it acknowledges
that support of this kind is vital to keep its
doors open.
of Cavendish Cancer Care.
Cavendish Cancer Care is an
independent charity established nearly
20 years ago. We offer completely free
services to everyone, whether you are
diagnosed with cancer, carer or child.
Our care is focused on the person and
not the cancer. Each person receives an
individualised package of care, which
is expensive to provide but valued by
those who receive it. Our aim is to work
alongside the NHS to help people cope
with the fears, anxieties and affects of a
diagnosis of cancer.
Cavendish provides care for people at
its Centre in Wilkinson Street in Sheffield
and at outreach projects at Weston Park
Hospital, and The Macmillan Palliative
Care Unit at Northern General Hospital.
We give up to £300 worth of therapy
support absolutely free, to anyone who
asks for our help and to meet the growing
numbers of people coming to us for help
we must plan to raise £500,000 per year.
