CMS BULLETIN - VALENTINE’S DAY AS FAMILY UNITY DAY
FEBRUARY DECEMBER 2012 2011 (2)
St. Valentine’s Day (14 February) is a day of mourning and not of merry making
An Appeal by CMS Founders Dr Jagdish Gandhi & Dr Bharti Gandhi as well as all CMS Principals
Demonic Roman Emperor Claudius II,
tried to destroy marriage and family
solidarity through a decree banning the
marriages of his soldiers and thus
encouraging them for free sex.
History Distorted: Some unscrupulous
businessmen and media have put the
innocent lives of vulnerable students at
stake by distorting history and Such a chaste and holy life, with its
propagating values of free sex of Devil implications of modesty, purity,
Emperor Claudius II in the name of St.
A devilish mind, Roman Emperor Claudius II
temperance, decency, and clean-
Valentine who gave up his life mindedness, involves no less than
protecting the sanctity of the institution the exercise of moderation in all
of marriage and family by solemnizing secret marriages of soldiers in the church at night. that pertains to dress, language,
Marriage is a sacred institution:
amusements, and all artistic and
literary avocations.
St. Valentine propagated marriage
as an institution of God and that
any laxity in marital relations is
against the will of God.
It requires total abstinence from all alcoholic drinks, from opium, and from similar habit-
forming drugs. It condemns the prostitution of art and of literature, the practices of
nudism and of companionate marriage, infidelity in marital relationships, and all manner
of promiscuity, of easy familiarity, and of sexual vices.
Imported Culture: The imported
culture of Valentine's Day which
came to India two decades ago in
its present form has in the last
twenty years been the cause of a
phenomenal rise in free sex leading
to juvenile crimes, pre-marital and
extra-marital sex, loss of virginity at
a very early age, abortions,
infanticides, rapes and murders of
young innocent girls, gruesome crimes like Nithari incident perpetuated by public school
educated individuals, incestuous relationships etc. causing AIDS, mental trauma and
depression.
An Excuse: Valentine's Day is being used as an excuse for promoting free sex and
promiscuity. The school, family and society must understand their responsibilities and
curb this growing menace by observing Valentine's Day as Marriage Solidarity and Family
Unity Day.
School, home and society must be united to teach its students to learn to lead a chaste
and Holy Life from their impressionable age.
— Shoghi Effendi
Daily Vigilance: It demands daily
vigilance in the control of one's
carnal desires and corrupt
inclinations. It calls for the
abandonment of a frivolous conduct, with its excessive attachment to trivial and often
misdirected pleasures.
No compromise : It can tolerate no compromise with the theories, the standards, the
habits, and the excesses of a decadent age. Nay rather it seeks to demonstrate, through
the dynamic force of its example, the pernicious character of such theories, the falsity of
such standards, the hollowness of such claims, the perversity of such habits, and the
sacrilegious character of such excesses.
GOD IS GREAT
WORLD WAR II
One day, a lady came to Gandhiji with her son and
requested Gandhiji to tell her some remedy for her little
son to stop eating lots of sweets. Gandhiji told her to
come after one week. After one week, when the lady
came, Gandhiji told her to come again after one month.
The lady was slightly annoyed but followed the
instructions. After one month, she again came and
Gandhiji requested for some more time to tell her the
remedy for her child's habit.
She desperately told him that she had such high hopes
from the great Mahatma, but now she felt that it was all
without any substance. Then Gandhiji told her "Sister,
even I take a lot of sweets and since the time you came to
me, I am trying to reduce my sugar intake but without
any success so far. Once I win over my habit, I will tell you
the remedy for your child's habit also".
The greatness of our leaders in those times was that they
preached what they practiced.
Trying to infuse life in the dying art,
Once a pair of pigeons was sitting on a tree. They were
very happy. They always lived together. They ate and
flew together. But one day a hunter saw them. He
became very happy to see such a good prey. He took an
aim at them. One of them noticed him. He said to his
friend, 'Nobody can save us today'. The other one said,
'God is great. He will save us'. Then, suddenly they saw
an eagle which was flying over them. The eagle also felt
happy to see such a good prey.
Both the birds got worried. Under the tree was the
hunter and over the tree was the eagle. They prayed to
God.
Just then a snake came near the hunter and bit his foot.
The hunter fell down so the arrow went in wrong
direction. It killed the eagle. Both the enemies of
pigeons were dead now.
The pair of pigeons flew away happily. Really, 'God is
great'. No one can kill whom God wants to save.
One day, I was coming back from school when suddenly, I
saw a boy running on the road. A car was also coming
from the opposite direction towards him. His mother
was screaming loudly. I rushed forward, caught the boy's
hand, and pulled him on the right side of the road. I was
able to save the boy from being run over by the car. I felt
very happy. In my school, the Principal praised me in the
school assembly and I was awarded a medal and
certificate of bravery.
OUR DUTY TOWARDS ‘BHARAT MATA’
We are Indians. India is our motherland. We are proud of
being Indians. We have grown up on Indian soil. It is a
land of different cultures. We are indebted to it and have
duties towards it. If we want to see our country
honestly. Land of our birth, we pledge to thee our love
INDIA
If the whole world is God's creation one would think that
the Creator was partial to India. He put a shine in her
skies, gold in her sands and blue in her rains. With a little
colour here and a little colour there He painted His
Canvas.
He adorned 'agni' with wild strokes of red. He put golden
brown in the people, red brown in the earth.
His task was almost complete. He created ripples.
Ripples of river blue. And rivers too got their colour. At
the end of it all, it looked like He had painted a dream,
not a nation and named it India.
Wars are the periods in which countries use weapons
and people die because destructive bombs, missiles etc.
are fired on them. Big cities are turned to ashes and
destroyed towns and villages cannot be even
recognized. These wars take place for small conflicts and
minor disputes. They only suck the blood for the people.
One of them was the Second World War. It was much
more destructive than the First World War. Millions of
people were killed, thousands of cities were turned into
empty hollow ruins where no life was present and
homelessness, food shortage, diseases like dengue,
malaria, typhoid etc. were found and on top of that
unemployment was another problem. There was no
one to help them.
All this had started from business and commercial cases.
Since the Industrial Revolution the machines had made
everything easy but soon the developing countries
didn't get goods to manufacture things and the markets
to sell it. Since the Industrial Revolution hadn't taken
place in Asia and Africa and these places had many
hidden treasures under the soil they turned towards
them to increase their profit. But soon they started
fighting and a major war broke out called the World War I
(1914-1918) which caused a lot of harm to nature as well
as to life. To prevent such wars The League of Nations'
was set up but the minor disputes between nations were
not settled and soon the World War II broke out in 1939
and ended in 1945. The end came when the atom bombs
were dropped over Japan in 1945 by US B-52 bomber.
These bombs had killed three fourth population of these
cities. The project under which these bombs were made
was named the 'Manhatten Project' and their names
were 'Fat man' and 'Little Boy'.
After the end a series of conferences were held which
led to the formation of UNO. But this organization can
never remove the spots which were left on the face of
different countries because of this war.
TRIP TO SRI LANKA
This year, I got a great opportunity to visit Sri Lanka for
participating in annual summer camp. The Colombo
Children Book Society organized this summer camp
under the UNESCO project. I went with my respected
Principal Mrs Abha Anant, my respected teacher
Mrs Gunjan Singh, my senior Astha Tandon, Allen Manis
and my friend Gurleen Kaur. We stayed there from
March 31 to April 8. A program was held by the host
school on April 2. We introduced ourself and performed
a dance.
Everybody enjoyed our dance performance. People
wanted to come on stage and dance with us. Each one of
us got a gold medal for our performances. We gave our
autograph to some people. We went to beaches, hills
and even an elephant park. We saw many elephants
there. We enjoyed very much. We also visited the
famous temple of Lord Buddha. It was a very interesting
trip and a memorable one too. We will never forget this
visit.
CISV OPEN DAY FEBRUARY 2012 (6)
CISV Greenville Camp
hosted by CMS at its Kanpur Road Campus
from 28 December 2011 to 24 January 2012
india
building global friendship
Children’s International Summer Village Camps are held all over the world to promote peace and unity. Children aged
11-12 yrs participate in these month- long camps and learn about friendship, brotherhood, oneness, love and
harmony. When these values are inculcated in their tender minds at a young age, they become inseparable part of
their daily habit and dealings. The CISV camps are useful means of fostering feelings of oneness of mankind. In these
camps they realise that children of their age of other countries have similar desires and there is nothing which is
uncommon between them. They come to know that people of the whole world are members of one family called
humanity. The togetherness in the camp teaches them that it is most pleasant to live like brothers or sisters. The camp
at Kanpur Road campus was a similar experience for them.
CISV named Greenville Camp this year was held at CMS Kanpur Road from 28th December 2011 to 24th January 2012.
Following are the glimpses of the Open Day of the Village when children wore different costumes of their respective
countries and presented a feast of delightful dances.
REMOVING SPECTACLES WITH FOOD
Eyes are one of the most sensitive features of our body. To enhance
eyes and get maximum out of them you need to give them extra
care, which requires eating right food for the eyes, resting them and
doing exercises to increase their sight and flexibility. In today's
world kids make their eyes do more work and give less rest.
Watching television for long hours, working on computers day and
night and lack of sleep during exam time makes the eyesight weak
and the eye muscles get tired. They need some extra care which
means giving them right food and right workouts to improve them.
From a nutritional standpoint, a large-scale research project conducted by the National
Eye Institute, England has shown that there are several nutrients that help protect our
eyes. The most important foods for preventing macular degeneration are ones that are
rich in the antioxidants beta carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, lutein and zeaxanthin ...
plus zinc and omega-3 fats. To make it simple for parents, here are the foods which are
available locally in the city and you can use in your kid’s daily diet.
Sprouted Wheat Flour: This is flour that truly builds health. It is characterized by
exceptional taste, nutritional content, digestibility, and stability. According to research
undertaken at the University of Minnesota, sprouting increases the total nutrient
density of a food by nearly 600%. In my experience of giving it to thousands of children,
it has always given fantastic results by increasing the immunity of the body and
strengthening the eye sight.
Prunes: Prunes are a nutrient dense food. This super food plays a key role in
maintaining healthy eye-sight and is also used to fight acne, resulting in a smooth
radiant skin. It is regarded as a natural probiotic and promotes the maintenance of a
healthy colon besides being a rich source of iron, thus aiding in the process of
respiration at the cellular level, by synthesizing the oxygen carrier, haemoglobin.
Munakka: These have often been referred to as nature's candy. They are super rich in
antioxidants which help keep the blood clean and flowing by getting rid of all unclean
impurities in the blood. Munakka are a preventative measure for macular
degeneration, which is the health of your eyesight. Just as carrots are good for your
eyesight so is this delicious food. They are also beneficial for bone density and assist
young children in growing taller.
Eating these types of foods, in addition to getting regular eye exams, can enhance and
preserve the health of children’s eyes. Many of the foods considered beneficial to your
eyes contain specific vitamins and minerals that can help ward of eye problems and
slow the progression of age-related eye diseases. Even the American Optometric
Association recommends several types of foods that can promote eye health.
As you use more of these Superfoods in your children’s diets, you will make their eyes
get stronger. Many kids have removed their spectacles by using them and thankfully
they are all commonly available in the mall stores of the city. The same foods will also
prevent eye disorders, cataract and glaucoma and retain flexibility of the eye lens for
years to come.
