There were many celebrations of joy and thanksgiving in
the Holy Family Convent for the 100th birthday of Sr.
Veronica Tracy. (See photo on back page).
The one I was present at was on the 8th February when Holy
Family Lay Associates and Sisters gathered together for the
concluding celebration of the 150th anniversary of the death
of Venerable Pierre Bienvenu Noailles, founder of the Holy
Family of Bordeaux, and rejoicing with Sr. Veronica as she
celebrated her 100th birthday. Fr Brian Kavanagh was the
celebrant of the Eucharist and Sr. Veronica, an amazing lady,
was guest of honour. We all felt we were in the presence
of someone special not just in her years, but her
gentleness and beautiful smile. Fr Brian asked her
before Mass what pearls of wisdom she would like
him to share with the group, she said “It is not the
amount of years that count but the love you
put into them - and how little or much we love
God, God always loves us”
Fr. Brian gave a very inspiring homily on the
founder's dream and how his dream became
reality. God often speaks in dreams and sometimes
dreams come true. After Mass the celebration
continued in the dining room over tea and biscuits Sr.
Veronica’s beloved “Curragh Group” presented her with a gift
and said how much she meant to all of them and then our own
Sonas Chríost Group presented her with flowers. I would like
to share with you some words of wisdom from Sr. Veronica.
A Double Celebration:
Thoughts of Spring
Out with the old and in with the new,
The grass so green and the sky so blue.
Spring marks a new beginning one filled with excitement
of the unknown,
Through the good times and bad each of us have grown.
From ice breakers to masses and visits to the nursing
homes
“Leave it with me” says Pat as the room erupts into
laughter and groans.
A mass comes along and we all take note,
“Be cheerful and happy with everyone you meet - that
way people will want to be around you, don’t be grumpy
or cross or you will end up on your own. And don’t stop
doing things because you are growing old you’ll only
grow old when you stop doing things” She also said
“Don’t take life too seriously because you wont get out of
it alive anyway.”
It is a privilege for me to be an associate member of the Holy
Family Lay Associates. Pierre Bienvenu Noailles, a young
priest from Bordeaux (1793 – 1861) saw the Holy Family of
Nazareth a model and ideal for the laity of his day.
He gathered together people who were willing to
share the vision with him. Today his dream is still
being realised throughout the world in the many
groups of people men and women, married and
single, young and old who strive to work towards
the overall aim for Fr Noailles “to gather into one
family the scattered children of God.” Surely Sr.
Veronica’s example of life is one we should all try to
imitate for a long and happy life in this world and
the next. Her favourite prayer is one she learned
as a child and she offers it to you today as a little
remembrance and a gift.
Jesus Mary and Joseph, I give you my heart and my soul, Jesus
Mary and Joseph assist me in my last agony, Jesus Mary and
Joseph may I breathe forth my soul in peace with you, Amen.
By Jenn Leacy
Will we sing this or that, “Guys lets put it to a vote!”
We have our fun in between organising and praying.
“Sorry I missed that, was on my phone what were yee
sayin?”
It’s been four years,
Full of friendship, laughter and sometimes tears.
Now the group is growing, a lovely blend of old and new.
