Well done to the Senior Boys’ Basketball
Team who finished second in
their league and missed out on being
at the Scottish Cup finals by one
game. The boys did really well this
year and are inspirational to the new
S1/2 boys’ teams, as well as now
having two newly qualified referees -
Darren Gould and Neil
MacKinnon. The MVP player of
Basketball 2011/2012
this season has been awarded to
Darren Gould who has scored an
amazing tally of points for Newbattle
High. Seniors now focus on their
exams and all games now are for the
S1/2 Boys.
Training night is Monday 1530 to
1630 or Wednesday lunchtime.
See you there!
Our Trip To Dynamic Earth
Ms Terris and Mr McMillan took Ms
Terris’ S3 Intermediate 1 class on a
class trip to Dynamic Earth in December.
We went because we were
studying evolution and the Big Bang
theory and we learned a lot about
these topics during our tour. When
we got there we were told to wait on
an elevator that came every seven
minutes to take us back millions of
years. We learned about the start of
the world and how animals fit into
their surroundings in a really good
3D experience. After the tour we
then went to a workshop to learn
about the Big Bang theory and made
little spaceships out of Lego! The
pupils represented Newbattle well
and were very well
behaved throughout.
Newbattle Netball has had another
successful season with the S3 team
playing in the Scottish Cup and competing
against Glasgow teams:- the
heartland of Scottish Netball. As the
only High School in Midlothian playing
competitive netball we started this
season's competition against previous
Newbattle Netball 2011/2012
winners Peebles as well as Craigmount
and Berwickshire. After the
first round, Newbattle qualified to
play in the knock out stages where
they were faced with Eastwood High
School. Newbattle proved to be the
stronger team and won this game 18-
12. This allowed Newbattle to move
on to the quarter finals, where we
travelled to Coatbridge to play St Andrew’s
High School. This was a hard
fought game finishing at 20-20. All
of our players worked extremely hard
and showed great team spirit but in
extra time St Andrew’s took the lead
with the final score of 24-22. Thank
you to all players from S1-S6 for the
great commitment and team work
again this season. For all pupils interested
in joining netball for next season
please ask your PE teacher.
Well Done!
Mrs A. Alexander, PE
