permitted at the UOG <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong> only with the permission <strong>of</strong> the DCB and<br />

the Director.<br />

2.5 Emergency Procedures<br />

1. In all cases involving a known or suspected diving accident, the following procedures<br />

shall be followed:<br />

A. Conscious Person<br />

1. If, after a scuba diving excursion, a person is suspected <strong>of</strong> any kind <strong>of</strong><br />

injury, they will be taken to the nearest medical facility to be examined by<br />

a medical doctor.<br />

2. If a person complains <strong>of</strong> symptoms <strong>of</strong> pressure-related injury such as<br />

dizziness, headache, numbness or tingling sensations oxygen shall be<br />

administered. The diver will then be taken to the Naval Station<br />

Recompression Chamber for examination by the medical doctor on duty.<br />

B. Unconscious Person<br />

1. If a person is found or becomes unconscious, first aid! CPR shall be<br />

administered along with pure oxygen. Arrangements should be made for<br />

emergency evacuation <strong>of</strong> the diver to the Naval Station Recompression<br />

Chamber. If on land, contact 911 to request an ambulance for<br />

transportation. If on a boat, the emergency VHF radio channel 16 should<br />

be used to alTange for medical transportation. In the event that no one can<br />

be reached on channel 16, channel 12 and 13, the Harbor Master, or<br />

channel 68, the local fishermen's channel, can be used to reach assistance.<br />

2. Medical Facilities<br />

A. For injuries not involving actual or suspected pressure-related injuries the<br />

following medical facilities can be utilized:<br />

1. Northern and Central <strong>Guam</strong>: <strong>Guam</strong> Memorial Hospital<br />

2. Southern <strong>Guam</strong>: Inarajan Health Center<br />

B. For injuries involving actual or suspected pressure-related injuries, the diver(s)<br />

should be taken to the Ship Repair Facility Recompression Chamber.<br />
