The requirements <strong>of</strong> Sec.6.2 (except medical approval) and 6.3 may be waived if the person in<br />
question has the required diving pr<strong>of</strong>iciency and can contribute measurably to the planned dive.<br />
A statement <strong>of</strong> the temporary diver's qualifications shall be submitted to the DSO as a palt <strong>of</strong> the<br />
dive plan. Temporary permits are restricted to the planned diving operation and shall comply<br />
with all other policies, regulations, and standards <strong>of</strong> this manual.<br />
6.2 General Policy<br />
No person shall engage in scientific diving under the auspices <strong>of</strong> the DOG <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong><br />
until certified pursuant to the provisions <strong>of</strong> this manual.<br />
6.2.1 Prerequisites<br />
Applicants to the DOG <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong> Scientific <strong>Dive</strong>r Certification Program must<br />
have fulfilled the requirements <strong>of</strong> Sec. 5.0 <strong>of</strong> this manual.<br />
6.2.2 Application<br />
An application for celtification must be filled out and provided to the DSO.<br />
6.2.3 Medical Examination<br />
Each applicant for diver certification must submit a statement from a licensed physician,<br />
based on an approved medical exam, attesting to the applicant's fitness to dive.<br />
6.2.4 Emergency Care Training<br />
The applicant must provide pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> training in the following:<br />
Adult CPR (must be current).<br />
Emergency oxygen administration (must be current)<br />
First aid for diving accidents (must be current)<br />
6.3 Requirements for Scientific <strong>Dive</strong>r Certification<br />
Certification in the DOG <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Laboratory</strong> Scientific <strong>Dive</strong>r program requires completion <strong>of</strong><br />
training in theoretical aspects and practical skills totaling a minimum <strong>of</strong> 100 hours. Theoretical<br />
aspects shall include principles and activities appropriate to the intended area <strong>of</strong> scientific study.<br />
