Here I have used the word community for <strong>Sheedi</strong>s because they have their own<br />
dist<strong>in</strong>ct identity, musical recognition, and they live <strong>in</strong> a shared socio-cultural<br />
organization. In Anthropological sense, the term is restricted to mean a local<br />
community, generally fairly small scale and <strong>of</strong>ten described as a traditional<br />
isolated or semi isolated groups, united by a common social and occupational<br />
category.<br />
1.4 ETYMOLOGY OF SHEEDI<br />
<strong>Sheedi</strong> women are traditional s<strong>in</strong>ger and dancer <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>dh and their ma<strong>in</strong><br />
occupation is s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and the major source <strong>of</strong> earn<strong>in</strong>g is Ghor (money earned<br />
through traditional s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and danc<strong>in</strong>g). Ghor is be<strong>in</strong>g taken over from the heads<br />
and hands <strong>of</strong> people to people through danc<strong>in</strong>g or shower<strong>in</strong>g over the people.<br />
<strong>Sheedi</strong>s are known as s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and danc<strong>in</strong>g occupational caste group <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>dh<br />
due to their major pr<strong>of</strong>ession <strong>of</strong> s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> different ceremonies. In a way, as folk<br />
musician caste group, it is <strong>in</strong>heritor <strong>of</strong> music tradition <strong>of</strong> S<strong>in</strong>dh over generations.<br />
1.5 OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY<br />
Follow<strong>in</strong>g are the ma<strong>in</strong> objectives <strong>of</strong> my research before go<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to field:<br />
1. To f<strong>in</strong>d out the history <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> community <strong>in</strong> S<strong>in</strong>dh<br />
2. To record the <strong>in</strong>digenous customs and values <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong>s<br />
3. To f<strong>in</strong>d out social organization <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong>s<br />
4. To know the concept <strong>of</strong> folklore or oral tradition <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> community<br />
5. To f<strong>in</strong>d out the history <strong>of</strong> women traditional s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> community<br />
6. To identify the way <strong>of</strong> women‟s traditional s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> community<br />
7. To describe the occupation <strong>of</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> women as traditional s<strong>in</strong>gers<br />
8. To know the <strong>in</strong>herited transformation <strong>of</strong> traditional s<strong>in</strong>g<strong>in</strong>g and use <strong>of</strong><br />
traditional <strong>in</strong>struments <strong>in</strong> <strong>Sheedi</strong> community<br />
