Preliminary Championships<br />

The Preliminary Championships will be run in conjunction with the <strong>Solo</strong><br />

Championships and will be decided by the order <strong>of</strong> merit <strong>of</strong> dancers after the first<br />

two rounds. Dancers entitled to enter these Preliminary Championships must<br />

indicate accordingly on the <strong>of</strong>ficial entry form. Special awards will be given to the<br />

relevant prize winners. Preliminary dancers are also entitled to be considered for<br />

the overall championship. There is no additional fee required as the Championship<br />

entry covers both the Open and Preliminary competitions.<br />

Feis Rules<br />

1. Entries will only be accepted from teachers currently registered with AN<br />

COIMISIÚN.<br />

2. All entries must be made on the enclosed <strong>of</strong>ficial entry form, which must be<br />

fully completed and signed. The dancer’s FULL FIRST NAME and SURNAME<br />

must be entered in BLOCK CAPITALS<br />

3. The feis committee may modify or cancel any arrangements detailed in this<br />

syllabus as is deemed necessary, subject to the approval <strong>of</strong> AN COIMISIÚN.<br />

4. Adjudicator’s decisions are final.<br />

5. Complaints are to be accompanied with a £20 fee to the Feis Secretary<br />

within an hour. The fee will be returned if the complaint is upheld.<br />

6. All trophies are perpetual challenge trophies and must be returned at the<br />

request <strong>of</strong> the Feis committee.<br />

7. Competitors must be present when their competition is called and fully obey<br />

all directions from Feis Stewards and Hall Keepers, or they may lose their right to<br />

dance and must be ready to dance 30 minutes before the scheduled start time <strong>of</strong><br />

the competition<br />

8. Competitors must not practise in competition halls, corridors or side stage<br />

etc. This rule will be strictly enforced. Any dancer found causing damage to floor<br />

surfaces out with areas designated as <strong>of</strong>ficial dance areas will be personally liable<br />

for any necessary repairs.<br />

9. The use <strong>of</strong> make-up is prohibited for those dancers up to, and including the<br />

under 12 age group when competing in Beginner or Primary Competitions.<br />

10. Toe blocks or any other footwork danced “ en pointe “ whether stationery or<br />

moving is not permitted for those dancers up to and including the under 12 age<br />

group, with the exception that the under 12 age group may perform this work from<br />

Sept 1 st.<br />

11. Beginner and Primary competitions are confined to dancers resident in<br />

Scotland. Speeds will be in accordance with those stipulated by the Scottish<br />

Regional Council.<br />

12. Dancers in Beginner and Primary competitions may only wear class<br />

costume, skirt and top or similar.<br />

13. Beginners are only permitted to dance steps equivalent to the basic reel,<br />

single jig, light jig, slip jig, heavy jig and hornpipe. Any competitor performing steps<br />

<strong>of</strong> a harder degree <strong>of</strong> difficulty in the beginners’ grade may be disqualified from<br />

that particular competition.


14. Tempos for Intermediate and Open competitions will be the same as those<br />

stipulated for World Championships.<br />

15. Beginner A dancer winning 1st or 2 nd in BEGINNER grade must dance<br />

that particular dance in PRIMARY grade (or above).There MUST be 6 or more in<br />

the competition.<br />

16. Primary A dancer winning 1st in PRIMARY grade must dance that<br />

particular dance in INTERMEDIATE grade (or above).There must be 6 or more in<br />

the competition.<br />

17. Intermediate A dancer winning 1st in INTERMEDIATE grade must dance<br />

that particular dance in OPEN grade for a period <strong>of</strong> at least 12 months. There<br />

must be 6 or more in the competition.<br />

18. Open A dancer winning 1 st ,2 nd or 3 rd in OPEN grade must dance that<br />

particular dance in Open grade for a period <strong>of</strong> at least 12 months.<br />

19. Open Championships A dancer placed 1 st ,2 nd or 3 rd in an OPEN<br />

CHAMPIONSHIP must remain OPEN for the dances performed in that<br />

championship for a period <strong>of</strong> at least 12 months.<br />

20. Dancers must be in full costume and appropriate footwear when receiving<br />

any awards.<br />

21. THE DRESS CODE IN ACCORDANCE WITH AN COIMISIÚN RULING<br />

WILL BE STRICTLY APPLIED, i.e. for the sake <strong>of</strong> modesty and in the interest <strong>of</strong><br />

safety to young people, dancers will not be permitted to walk around the Feis<br />

scantily dressed, no changing in the halls will be allowed<br />

22. No coaching while dancers are on stage. This could result in<br />

disqualification <strong>of</strong> the dancer.<br />

23. No flash photography or video recording equipment may be used whilst<br />

competitions are in progress.<br />

24. The use <strong>of</strong> mobile phones and electronic games are strictly prohibited in<br />

competition halls.<br />

25. Photographs taken at the Feis may be used on the Feis website, please<br />

let the Committee know if you do not want your photograph to appear on the<br />

website.<br />

26. Preliminary Championships. These are included in all Open<br />

Championships from Under 10 upward provided there are 5 or more eligible<br />

competitors. To compete in a Preliminary Championship competitors must not<br />

have been placed in the top three positions in any Open Championship or first<br />

place in a Preliminary Championship within the last 12 months. A Preliminary<br />

Championship is a competition which has been judged by a panel <strong>of</strong> three<br />

adjudicators (minimum) and must include at least one heavy and one light round.<br />

The relevant notation must be made on the entry form to indicate that a dancer is<br />

entitled to be entered into the Preliminary Championship.
