Bartolacci Sa Bom Nim Chairman, TechnicalAdvisory Committee Dear Federation Members, Guests and Friends of the Moo Duk Kwan, It is with great pleasure that I once again welcome you to our National Moo Do Festival in San Diego, CA. This year’s event promises to be a continuation of the positive direction initiated at last year’s Moo Do Festival, complete with outstanding seminars, demonstrations and fellowship. In addition, we have the added prestige of the 2008 North American Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa running concurrently with this activity. You will note the unique positioning of the Ko Dan Ja candidates as they model their leadership skills as true Moo Do In (martial arts persons). In this current world of uncertainty, there are certain things we can count on: our Moo Duk Kwan is a home that welcomes all persons, that focuses on the development of the human spirit through discipline, respect, honesty, courage and traditions and values each person as a unique contributor to our future. Our Five Moo Do Values are the cornerstone of our being, and as such form the crucible of a truly comfortable home. We, the Technical Advisory Committee, are here to support you, and we thank you for your dedication and ongoing contributions to our our Founder’s Art. We support Hwang, Kwan Jang Nim in his vision recognizing that his tireless efforts on our behalf are our guideposts, and we appreciate all he does for us. It is our time to now show him what we have learned as we move through this weekend with poise, humility and technical excellence. Enjoy the time spent, as it always passes too quickly. Don’t waste a moment to connect with your Moo Do heritage and build your memories for the future. Charles Smith Sa Bom Nim Chairman, Board of Directors Dear Members, Families, and Friends: Welcome to the 30th Annual Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Moo Do Festival and National Championships in San Diego, California. Once again the Region 9 members have “acted” to demonstrate the core element of Mission 2000 (human relations) by extending themselves to ensure that their Moo Do brothers and sisters from around the country and world have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We are grateful to the Kwnag Jan Nim, the Technical Advisory Committee, the Senior Advisory Committee, the Hu Jyun In, and the Federation staff for sharing their time and wisdom with us throughout the festival activities and informal learning opportunities. In addition, we are thankful for the dozens of volunteer from every region who will make their contributions to the many festival events this week, and add to our collective success. I am sure you will join me in expressing sincere appreciation for the contributions of each member, family, and friend of the Moo Duk Kwan. You are part of a new page in the history of our Federation. This year, in addition to the Festival and National Championships, the Ko Dan Ja candidates and alumni visitors will be with us to begin their Shim Sa experience, which will continue through August 22nd. We will have the whole weekend to share our spirit energy with instructors and friends before they depart on their intensive week of learning and growth. When you meet and greet people this weekend, begin by thanking them for being a part of this festival. I am reminded of a recent Region 10 event in which my seven year old son, Ray, and two other children spent hours together practicing hyung, helping with event tasks, and playing with one another. They were inseparable. I commented to the other children’s parent about what I saw. He responded that he had told his children that the reason for coming to the event was to make new Soo Bahk Do friends and to have fun. I hope each of us will follow this example and take time to strengthen our connection by building new relationships and renewing old ones. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable stay in San Diego and I thank you for your participation and support of your Federation’s 2008 National Championships, Moo Do Festival, and Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa.
