Dear Members, Families, and Friends:
Welcome to the 30th Annual Soo Bahk Do Moo Duk Kwan Moo Do Festival and National Championships
in San Diego, California.
Once again the Region 9 members have “acted” to demonstrate the core element of Mission 2000 (human
relations) by extending themselves to ensure that their Moo Do brothers and sisters from around the country
and world have an enjoyable and rewarding experience. We are grateful to the Kwnag Jan Nim, the
Technical Advisory Committee, the Senior Advisory Committee, the Hu Jyun In, and the Federation staff
for sharing their time and wisdom with us throughout the festival activities and informal learning
opportunities. In addition, we are thankful for the dozens of volunteer from every region who will make
their contributions to the many festival events this week, and add to our collective success. I am sure you
will join me in expressing sincere appreciation for the contributions of each member, family, and friend of
the Moo Duk Kwan.
You are part of a new page in the history of our Federation. This year, in addition to the Festival and
National Championships, the Ko Dan Ja candidates and alumni visitors will be with us to begin their Shim
Sa experience, which will continue through August 22nd. We will have the whole weekend to share our
spirit energy with instructors and friends before they depart on their intensive week of learning and growth.
When you meet and greet people this weekend, begin by thanking them for being a part of this festival.
I am reminded of a recent Region 10 event in which my seven year old son, Ray, and two other children
spent hours together practicing hyung, helping with event tasks, and playing with one another. They were
inseparable. I commented to the other children’s parent about what I saw. He responded that he had told
his children that the reason for coming to the event was to make new Soo Bahk Do friends and to have fun.
I hope each of us will follow this example and take time to strengthen our connection by building new
relationships and renewing old ones.
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable stay in San Diego and I thank
you for your participation and support of your Federation’s 2008 National Championships, Moo Do
Festival, and Ko Dan Ja Shim Sa.
