First I must apologise
for the error in last
month’s report. The
Eagle - eyed amongst
you will have noticed
that the meeting date
was wrong. We hold
our Birthday Party
every year in October so the date
should have read October 1st.
Soup ‘n’ Puds
On Friday November the 2nd
we held another of our popular Soup
‘n’ Puds lunches. It was very well
attended so thank you to all who
supported our efforts.
On the evening of November the 5th
we began our Annual Meeting of
2012 by singing Jerusalem before
getting down to business. We first had
the Financial Report from our
Treasurer Angela Jenner and a report
on the past year from our Secretary,
Zena Dakeyne. Zena has been a very
valuable member of our committee for
many years but unfortunately has
decided to stand down for 2013. We
would like to thank her for all her hard
work on our behalf. There followed an
address from myself, the President, in
which I talked about events of the past
year and took the opportunity to
express my thanks to everyone who
makes our W.I. what it is today. The
Committee for the coming year was
decided upon and I was re-elected as
President. Our area Advisor, Andrea
Davis, said a few words and was very
complimentary about our activities and
achievements during the past year. We
were then free to enjoy the talk
COMMUNITY NEWS
BACTON & DISTRICT W.I. Monday November 5th 2012
by Peter Banham on ‘Old Sayings and
their Origins’.
This was very interesting as he asked
us to guess the origins of many well
known sayings. Although some
members knew one or two of them
and others made some very competent
stabs at guessing, he mainly surprised
us with a large fund of knowledge
about lots of sayings we hear everyday
but take for granted.
Peter’s wife had accompanied him and
set up a stall of craft items which she
was selling in aid of Redwings Horse
Sanctuary.
Our next meeting will be on December
the 5th when Linda Scoles will be
amusing us with tales of ‘Disastrous
Christmas Gifts’.
Visitors welcome at £3.00 per
session.
