Game Preview / Week 9
The Thiel Tomcats (2-6, 2-4 PAC) will wrap
up the 2012 season with a pair of road
games, including this Saturday’s contest in New
Wilmington, Pa., against the Westminster Titans.
Thiel is coming off a 26-13 loss to Bethany at Alumni
Stadium Saturday. The Tomcats held a 7-0 lead early
on Andrew Smith’s 1-yard run in the first quarter.
The Bison went on to score 26 straight points and
held on for a 26-13 victory.
Westminster lost to No. 23-ranked Waynesburg last
Saturday, 42-16. The Titans have wins this season
over Hiram (28-0), Saint Vincent (17-6) and Bethany
(45-28).
The Tomcats will need to limit Titan quarterback
Dak Britt. He has completed 79 passes for 1,024
yards. Britt has also thrown for nine touchdown
passes, but he has been intercepted seven times. On
the ground, Britt has gained 509 yards and scored
eight touchdowns on 87 carries.
Britt will be up against a Thiel defense that is leading
the PAC in sacks (26) and is second in stopping the
run, allowing 111 yards per game.
On the other side of the ball, Thiel had success running
the football last Saturday. In all, Thiel ran for
224 yards led by Taylor Fink’s 92-yard performance
on carries.

Bethany 26, Thiel 13
Quarterback Matt Grimard ran for two touchdowns
and threw for a touchdown Saturday to
lead the visiting Bethany Bison to a 26-13 win
over the Thiel Tomcats at Alumni Stadium.
The Tomcats held the momentum early in the
game after they mounted an 8-play, 53-yard
drive on their opening possession to take an
early 7-0 lead. Freshman running back Josh
Potter highlighted the drive with seven carries
for 27 yards before quarterback Andrew Smith
scored on a 1-yard touchdown run with 11:11
remaining in the first quarter.
Bethany threatened to score on two drives in the
second quarter. The first of those drives, which
began on the last play of the first quarter, ended
at the Thiel 31-yard line when Grimard’s fourthdown
pass intended for Ed Holmes fell incomplete.
On their next possession, the Bison drove
down to the Thiel 14-yard line, but Grimard’s
pass on third-and-goal was intercepted at the
goal line by Thiel defensive back Julian McLean,
who returned the ball to the 17-yard line.
The Tomcats picked up one first down on their
ensuing offensive possession on a 24-yard
run by Potter, but the drive stalled at the Thiel
41-yard line.
Bethany went on to score on its next possession,
capping off a 10-play, 79-yard drive with 36
seconds left in the first half when Grimard scored
on a 14-yard run. The extra point attempt was
no good, however, and the Tomcats held a slim
1-point lead at the half.
The Bison drove down to the Thiel 19-yard line
on the opening possession of the second half but
could not convert a crucial fourth-and-4 play to
keep possession.
The Tomcats responded with a long drive of their
own on the following drive but, like the Bison the
series before, could not convert an important
fourth-and-4 play at the Bethany 22-yard line.
After Bethany went 3-and-out on its next series,
Thiel mounted another long drive that appeared
to end with a Jon Fennick 36-yard field goal.
However, Bethany was flagged for roughing
the kicker on the play, which gave the Tomcats
a fresh set of downs at the 10-yard line. The
drive was halted two plays later, however, when
Jordan Joyce intercepted a Smith pass.
Joyce’s interception ignited the Bethany offense,
which embarked on what would eventually count
as the game-winning drive. Grimard ran for a
first down on the drive and threw for two first
downs before scoring on a 5-yard run to cap the
12-play, 87-yard drive that consumed nearly five
minutes of game clock. Bethany’s 2-point conversion
try failed, but the Bison held a 12-7 lead.
Later in the fourth quarter, Grimard went on
to throw a 43-yard touchdown pass to Eric
Blinn and Phil Acrie scored a touchdown on an
11-yard run.
Thiel’s offense was able to mount a good drive
late in the fourth quarter that ended with a
17-yard pass from Smith to senior receiver Zane
Garza.
Taylor Fink paced the Tomcats on the ground
with 12 carries for 92 yards. Smith ran 16 times
for 67 yards while Potter also carried 16 times
for 65 yards. Acrie paced Bethany with 55 yards
rushing on 12 totes.
Grimard completed 26-of-40 passes for 293
yards. He threw two interceptions and one
touchdown pass. Smith completed six passes
for 59 yards, one of which was a 17-yard TD
pass to Garza.
Blinn caught eight passes for Bethany for 182
yards, including a 43-yard TD pass from Grimard.
Senior linebacker Ethan Ludwig made 14 tackles
for Thiel, two of which were for a loss of
yards. Senior defensive end Tim Taylor recorded
two sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss and forced one
fumble.
Joyce intercepted two passes for Bethany. Greg
Lotozo made nine tackles, 2.5 of which were for
a loss of yards.
Titans fall to Waynesburg, 42-16
The Westminster College football team lost
42-16 to No. 23-ranked Waynesburg last
Saturday. The Titans dropped to 3-4 overall and
2-4 in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC).
The Yellow Jackets remained undefeated at 9-0
overall and 7-0 in the league.
Waynesburg was ahead 35-0 with six minutes
left before halftime. Westminster scored
its first points of the game after it drove seven
plays for 70 yards with 3:14 left in the second
quarter. PAC Offensive Player of the Week
junior Dak Britt capped off the drive with a
seven-yard touchdown run. After a successful
extra point from Titan freshman Zack Baker,
Westminster was down 35-7. The Titans forced
a Waynesburg punt and made the score 35-10
after a 32-yard field goal from Baker as time
expired. Britt scored his second rushing touchdown
in the fourth quarter from 12 yards out.
The Yellow Jackets had 498 total yards, including
256 rushing. Westminster totaled 225 yards.
Waynesburg also led on third-down conversions,
converting 9-of-15, while Westminster was 3-of-
9.
Britt led the Titans with 122 passing yards and
was 14-for-36 with two interceptions. Britt added
34 rushing yards, while junior Tyler Banks had
a team-high 59 yards (5.9 avg) on the ground.

Junior Collin Wallace had four catches for a
team-high 57 yards. Senior Geno Pasquinelli
had three grabs for 37 yards and is now tied
fourth all-time in Westminster football history
with Chad Rosatelli with 134 career receptions.
Junior Nate Moot led the Titan defense with
eight tackles, while senior Derrick Orloski had
seven.
Ludwig moves up to No. 2
Linebacker Ethan Ludwig has 83 total tackles
on the season, which ties him for the second
most in the PAC. Ludwig is only two tackles
behind Geneva’s Dillon Goodell, who is currently
leading the conference in the category.
Thiel defense
Thiel’s defense leads the PAC with 26 sacks. In
addtion, the defense is No. 2 in the conference
at stopping the run, allowing an average of 111
yards per contest on the ground.
Taylor’s numbers
Senior defensive end Tim Taylor, Thiel’s alltime
career leader in sacks and tackles for loss,
leads the PAC this season with 12.5 sacks. He
is tied for the most tackles for loss in the PAC
(19.5).
Fink runs into Top 10
Taylor Fink is Thiel’s leading rusher. Fink ranks
10th among all PAC running backs with 446
yards on the ground on 118 carries.

About the Presidents’
Athletic Conference
Founded in 1955, the Presidents’ Athletic
Conference continues its mission of promoting intercollegiate
athletics and the pursuit of academic excellence.
Comprised of 10 select private colleges - Bethany
College, Chatham University, Geneva College, Grove
City College, Saint Vincent College, Thiel College,
Thomas More College, Washington and Jefferson
College, Waynesburg University and Westminster
College - the PAC remains a unique organization in this
day of high pressure intercollegiate athletics. With academics
at the center of each member’s philosophy, the
PAC is built on the principle that an athletic program is
a part of college life, but not an entity in itself.
The PAC expanded to seven members in 2005 with the
addition of Thomas More, formerly an NCAA Division
III independent. Saint Vincent College, a former NAIA
member, joined the conference as its began provisional
membership status in NCAA Division III in 2006-07.
Another former NAIA member, Geneva College,
became the conference’s ninth member and began
league play as it started NCAA Division III provisional
membership in 2007-08. Chatham College became the
league’s 10th member, also in 2007-08.
The PAC annually crowns champions in 19 sports.
In 2008-09, the conference had 41 teams represent
the conference in postseason play, including 23
in NCAA Championship events. PAC championship
teams receive automatic qualification (AQ) status for
most NCAA Division III national championship events.
All-conference status is awarded in all 19 sports. Head
coaches select all-league squads for all team sports,
while in individual sports such as cross country and
tennis, all-PAC accolades are based upon performances
at the conference championships.
The PAC annually awards its men’s and women’s All-
Sports Trophies to the schools which perform best
across the board in PAC competition.
