Friday, June 22 (7:30pm), Saturday, June 23 (2:00pm & 7:30pm), Monday, June 25 (7:30pm),<br />

Tuesday, June 26 (7:30pm), Wednesday 27 (7:30pm)<br />

REHEARSALS<br />

Beginning May 21st, rehearsals will be Monday - Thursday<br />

From 6:00 pm – 10:00 pm<br />

Extended tech rehearsals will be June 18-21 from 5:30pm to whatever time is needed as<br />

required for all performers.<br />

PREPARE<br />

Two cuttings totaling 3 minutes:<br />

1) One musical theater piece - ballad or up-tempo, showing stage character<br />

2) One st<strong>and</strong>ard musical theater piece – Jazz from the 1930’s or 1940’s<br />

Males:<br />

<strong>Cole</strong> Porter – Eternally youthful quality with the ability to suggest the span of ages from 20-70. Quick, open <strong>and</strong> preferably not blond. Some piano skills<br />

helpful, but not required.<br />

30’s – 40’s<br />

Low F – F above middle C<br />

Baritone<br />

Paul (<strong>Cole</strong>’s valet) – Attractive, young man. Sensitive actor with some dance skills.<br />

F below middle C – High b flat<br />

Lyric Tenor<br />

Clifton Webb, George Kaufman, Sam Katz, Noel Coward – English soldier, doctor, drunk. Versatile actor with the ability to play debonair <strong>and</strong> sophisticated, as<br />

well as crass. Vocally capable of doing patter songs.<br />

40’s – 50’s<br />

A flat below staff – High F on staff<br />

Baritone<br />

Photographer, others – Dancer-singer with strong skills in tap <strong>and</strong> jazz<br />

Elsa Maxwell, Ethel Merman – Strong singer-comedienne with larger-than-life presence. More physically suited to Ethel with the ability to contrast ‘affected’<br />

Elsa with ‘brassy’ Ethel.<br />

Mezzo-Soprano<br />

Irene Castle, Beguine Partner – Strong tap, jazz <strong>and</strong> ballroom skills. Good singing voice.<br />

Sara Murphy, Dorothy Parker, Hedda Hopper, Bella Spewack – Strong ‘bourbon voiced’ singer. Strong actress, sharp <strong>and</strong> cynical.<br />

F sharp below staff – High F on staff<br />

Mezzo-Soprano<br />

Linda (Lee Thomas) Porter – Beautiful, naturally sophisticated – not an ingénue. May be taller than <strong>Cole</strong> Porter as they are not necessarily the ‘perfect’<br />

couple.<br />

Soprano<br />

Bricktop – Good dancer/singer with Jazzy sense of movement <strong>and</strong> vocal style.<br />

Performers in the musical are REQUIRED to complete 10 hours of assistance in either the costume or scene shop.<br />

Performers selected for participation must enroll in the appropriate class section before the rehearsals begin <strong>and</strong> be a<br />

student in good st<strong>and</strong>ing throughout the production.<br />

Performers are also responsible for providing ONE usher for one of the performances. A sign- up sheet is available in<br />

the office <strong>and</strong> should be arranged at least two weeks prior to the performance. The usher will be allowed to view the<br />

production for free.<br />

Performers are expected to be on time for all scheduled rehearsals <strong>and</strong> performance calls. They agree to be fully<br />

prepared <strong>and</strong> ready to work cooperatively with cast <strong>and</strong> directors.<br />

underst<strong>and</strong> that college credit will be posted to my transcript based on my participation <strong>and</strong> fulfillment of this<br />

agreement. I also underst<strong>and</strong> my MCCCD Student Account will be assessed $25 for each script given me if not returned<br />

completely erased before the beginning of the show’s last performance <strong>and</strong>/or for each costume, accessory or prop not<br />

turned in immediately after the last performance. I will sign a separate contract explaining the Lease Agreement.<br />
