Behind <strong>the</strong> Scenes at <strong>the</strong> WCFF<br />
You can now look forward to eight days of old tyme family fun, fabulous<br />
food, delicious desserts, exciting entertainment and agricultural<br />
exhibits from <strong>the</strong> home and garden at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Warren</strong> <strong>County</strong><br />
<strong>Farmers</strong>’ <strong>Fair</strong>. The preparation, coordination and organization of<br />
this event is made possible through <strong>the</strong> fruition of 12 directors and<br />
3 secretaries. With everyone working to keep our ‘tractor on<br />
course’ with our wagon full of volunteers, who unselfishly share<br />
<strong>the</strong>ir special talents and commitment every year to make <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fair</strong><br />
bigger and better. We want to thank all of <strong>the</strong>m as well as <strong>the</strong><br />
agents and secretaries in <strong>the</strong> RCE office who also work so diligently<br />
on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fair</strong> throughout <strong>the</strong> year. A special thanks to those that<br />
coordinate o<strong>the</strong>r special projects like <strong>the</strong> Traditional Arts Building,<br />
<strong>the</strong> Kids’ Corral and <strong>the</strong> Hot Air Balloon Festival.<br />
John Slack has served on <strong>the</strong> Board since 1993 and is currently<br />
serving as our President. Frank graciously has handled over <strong>the</strong><br />
keys of <strong>the</strong> tractor hopefully ‘steering’ John in <strong>the</strong> right direction<br />
and keeping it in ‘low gear’ while ‘pulling’ us forward for <strong>the</strong> next<br />
two years. John and his wife Mae can be found registering antique<br />
tractors for <strong>the</strong> show on Friday or helping to scoop up ice cream at<br />
<strong>the</strong> ice cream sundae. John will be spending more of his time in <strong>the</strong><br />
office this year overseeing <strong>the</strong> operation of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Fair</strong>. When not at <strong>the</strong><br />
<strong>Fair</strong> you can find John in <strong>the</strong> field with his son David, as <strong>the</strong>y farm<br />
over 1,000 acres outside of Bloomsbury, NJ. John has served on <strong>the</strong><br />
Environmental Commission for over 20 years, six years on <strong>the</strong><br />
Pohatcong Town Council and three years on <strong>the</strong> Industrial<br />
Committee in Pohatcong Township.<br />
Carl Sigler is currently serving again as Vice President and has<br />
held o<strong>the</strong>r officer positions since joining <strong>the</strong> board in 1987. During<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>Fair</strong> you can find him scooping up ice cream. Some of his o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
appointments or elected positions in his community include being<br />
<strong>the</strong> former Mayor of Franklin Township, member on <strong>the</strong> Township<br />
School Board for 17 years, served on WC Community College<br />
Planning Board for three years, appointed to <strong>the</strong> FHA Board in<br />
2006 and is on <strong>the</strong> USDA Farm Service Agency Farm Committee.<br />
He has been in farming his whole life, started his own herd in 1960<br />
and farmed a total of 240 acres. Carl has been a director for over 30<br />
years on <strong>the</strong> Livestock Auction Board in Hackettstown.<br />
Michael Toretta has served on <strong>the</strong> Board of Directors since 1985 in<br />
various officer positions and currently is our Treasurer, a position<br />
he was appointed to in 1992. Mike is a dairy farmer with a herd of<br />
about 100 head and farms 150 acres in Franklin Township. Mike<br />
presently serves on <strong>the</strong> Franklin Township committee, WC Board of<br />
Agriculture and <strong>the</strong> Livestock Auction Board in Hackettstown. He<br />
works with <strong>the</strong> financial secretary throughout <strong>the</strong> year as well as<br />
<strong>Fair</strong> week and is in charge of hiring office help, parkers, gate and<br />
grandstand workers.<br />
Oscar Unangst has served on <strong>the</strong> Board since 1967 and has now<br />
earned <strong>the</strong> title of ‘senior director’ – having <strong>the</strong> most years on <strong>the</strong><br />
board. He has served several terms as President and Vice<br />
President. During his tenure as a director he helped build most of<br />
<strong>the</strong> barns and structures on <strong>the</strong> fairgrounds. He has been a dairy<br />
farmer since 1944, starting out on his grandfa<strong>the</strong>r’s farm in<br />
