Homework Policy
The Chase will provide regular opportunities for extended learning to help young people develop the skills
and attitudes they will need for successful lifelong learning.
Where possible, homework tasks, like every other learning activity, will reflect variety and differentiation and
will be set for a purpose.
Key Stage 3
Extended Learning Assessments (ELA) will stimulate, encourage and guide students towards individual
learning away from the classroom:
• Tasks will provide students with the opportunity to practice and reinforce skills learnt in class.
• Modern communication technology will allow students access to their programme of work at a time and
place of their choice.
• Each academic area will ensure that Extended Learning Assignments are differentiated to recognise
students‟ individual needs, including extension work for Gifted and Talented students.
• ELAs will be set weekly in subjects across the curriculum and will equate to approximately an hour‟s
study across four evenings. but with the option to extend study beyond this.
• ELAs will facilitate Assessment for Learning with the further option to award Key Stage levels in some
cases. The ELA will be graded according to school guidelines and enable consistency across Year
Groups.
• Gifted and Talented students who have been entered for GCSE early will be expected to complete
homework for the GCSE subject, as well as their ELA in Key Stage 3 subjects.
• Information about ELAs will be available on the school website.
• In the final half term of Year 9, students will be given traditional style homework. We recognize the fact
that many Year 9 students will have started their GCSE courses at this time.
Key Stage 4
In order to support GCSE work and to continue to develop the skills of independent learning, homework
will continue to play an important role at Key Stage 4.
