PROCEDURE FOR WITHDRAWAL OF STUDENTS FROM RELIGIOUS
EDUCATION AND COLLECTIVE WORSHIP
Parents have a right to withdraw their children from Religious Education (RE) and collective worship. The
Chase will remain responsible for the supervision of any child withdrawn from RE or collective worship,
unless the child is lawfully receiving RE, or taking part in collective worship elsewhere. Parents do not need
to explain their reasons for seeking withdrawal, but to avoid misunderstanding, the Headteacher may wish to
clarify with any parent wanting to withdraw:

the religious issues about which the parent would object to their child being taught
the practical implications of withdrawal
the circumstances in which it would be reasonable to accommodate parents‟ wishes
if a parent will require any advanced notice of such issues in the future and if so, how much
Any parents wishing to withdraw their child from Religious Studies Education should put their request in
writing, addressed to Headteacher.
SCIENCE
„Everything should be made as simple as possible – but not one
bit simpler‟
Albert Einstein
Science is a core subject within the National Curriculum and all
students follow Science courses up to the age of 16. The study of
Science encourages students both to think analytically and to be
creative. Throughout the school, students are encouraged to be
inquisitive, to study their environment carefully and find out more by
asking questions.
Key Stage 3
In Years 7, 8 and 9 Science is taught for 3 units per week. At the end
of Year 7 students will embark on one of two pathways through the
remainder of Key Stage 3.
Pathway 1 Approximately half of the students continue to follow
the Key Stage 3 programme of study, with an assessment of their final Key Stage 3 level at the end of Year 9.
Pathway 2 The remaining students who show higher aptitude for science are placed in an accelerated
science set. These students complete the remainder of the Key Stage 3 programme of study in Year 8. In
Year 9 the accelerated sets begin to study for the Edexcel Certificate (IGCSE) in Biology, Chemistry and
Physics.
