Responsibility<br />

The shepherd has the right to offer milk but he does not have the right to offer a<br />

calf.<br />

An employee was generously distributing office materials to his friends to the point where<br />

his supervisor noticed. He called him in and rebuked him, quoting this proverb.<br />

[Traditionally a shepherd was not paid, but he had the right to profit from the milk from<br />

the morning, with the evening’s milk going to the owners.]<br />
