Children’s Day on the Farm Returns to <strong>JPPM</strong>!<br />

Sunday, June 3, 11 AM – 5 PM<br />

Children of all ages are invited to the 27 th Annual<br />

Children’s Day on the Farm, a celebration of Southern<br />

Maryl<strong>and</strong>’s rich agricultural heritage! Enjoy new<br />

attractions as well as old favorites, like the antique<br />

Tractor Parade! Demonstrations, h<strong>and</strong>s-on activities,<br />

rides, games, live entertainment, food <strong>and</strong> beverage.<br />

Great family fun! Performances include: a live puppet<br />

show, magic, music <strong>and</strong> more. Children’s Day on the<br />

Farm is a free event, but a small fee may be charged for some activities.<br />

Public Archaeology<br />

May 8 - June 30<br />

<strong>JPPM</strong> invites you to join our archaeologists in the field, where excavations will take<br />

place from 10:00 AM-3:00 PM on Wednesdays, Fridays <strong>and</strong> Saturdays (weather<br />

permitting), <strong>and</strong> in the Maryl<strong>and</strong> Archaeological Conservation Laboratory from<br />

10:00 AM - 3:00 PM on Tuesdays <strong>and</strong> Thursdays where time will be spent cleaning<br />

the artifacts in order to ‘rediscover’ what was found. Contact Ed Chaney at<br />

Tea in the Garden at Point Farm<br />

All are invited to enjoy a spring afternoon in gr<strong>and</strong><br />

significant site & one of the most beautiful places<br />

in Calvert County. Funds raised will be used to<br />

benefit restoration of the historic decorative gates<br />

recent investigative restoration work. This lecture will follow the Friends of <strong>JPPM</strong> annual meeting.<br />

Point Farm Garden Restoration<br />

Volunteers Needed<br />

Point Farm was the country retreat of the late Mr. & Mrs. <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>Patterson</strong>. In 1983 Mrs. <strong>Patterson</strong> donated the property<br />

to the state in honor of her late husb<strong>and</strong>, creating <strong>Jefferson</strong> <strong>Patterson</strong> <strong>Park</strong> & <strong>Museum</strong>. Join the <strong>JPPM</strong> Garden Club as they<br />

work to recreate the splendor of the main house gardens using the original plans of noted l<strong>and</strong>scape architect Rose Greely.<br />

Home School Day: Farmers, Patriots <strong>and</strong> Traitors: The War of 1812 in Southern Maryl<strong>and</strong><br />

$8/child, $5/non-home school sibling. All Ages.<br />

This program will allow students to explore the causes <strong>and</strong> impact of the War of 1812 on Maryl<strong>and</strong>. Students will use<br />

timelines <strong>and</strong> primary resources to underst<strong>and</strong> the causes of the War, as well as visit the new exhibit, Farmers, Patriots <strong>and</strong><br />

Traitors: The War of 1812 in Southern Maryl<strong>and</strong>. Students will learn how local residents, through the study of primary<br />

resources including letters, journals <strong>and</strong> newspaper clippings, perceived the War. Students will conclude their day by visiting<br />

the Maryl<strong>and</strong> Archaeological Laboratory to see artifacts related to the War in Maryl<strong>and</strong>.<br />

battle which took place on the waters adjacent to what is now <strong>JPPM</strong>. Explore the War of 1812 <strong>and</strong> its impact on Southern<br />

Maryl<strong>and</strong>. Tours begin at the Visitor Center.<br />
