THE Global Award for sustainable architecture
The energy and environmental crisis is affecting all societies at the same
moment. Such a global and simultaneous rupture has never before occurred in
the modern world.
In the 20th century, industrial development was born along on a “train
of progress” which disseminated the same model of life and the city,
commensurate with each society and its history. Today, trains of “sustainable
development” leave at the same time, they no longer use the same energy or
follow the same paths.
In every country, architects’ avant-garde are working to build a new balance
between earth and men. The West is home to several nuclei of invention.
In them, energy and materials are the focus of an industrial revolution for
which architects are the trailblazers. In the southern hemisphere, the crisis is
rewriting the development equations: technology and society, development
and progress, city and equity... The urgency of the situation drives innovations
that are often more radical than in the West, and this augurs an entirely new
relationship between South and North. A worldwide architectural scene is
emerging. Its protagonists don’t share models anymore, but an ethic, methods
and experiences. The globalised design of the late 20th century is giving way
to the universality of an architecture which, from the depths of each territory,
reflects the search for a new balance. Every project is a fragment of the world,
and orders the world.
The Global Award for Sustainable Architecture was created in 2006 to foster
this worldwide debate on architecture by Jana Revedin, architect, professor,
president of LOCUS Fund, surrounded by a scientific committee and its
international experts. It is now supported by the LOCUS Fund and its actions are
broadcasted by the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine.
Every year, the Global Award rewards five architects who share the ethic of
sustainable development and have constructed an innovative and ecological
approach, whether in the West or in the emerging countries, in developed cities
or on behalf of the planet’s most vulnerable populations.
The purpose of the Global Award for Sustainable Architecture is to create a
community of these highly talented architects, to publicise their approach and
to stimulate the exchange of experience between North and South. Since 2007,
thirty architects have won the award. The exhibition displays the work of this
new avant-garde.

L’exPOSITION
In 2009, the Cité de l’architecture & du patrimoine, realises the first touring exhibition
on the Global Award, in order to give more visibility to those innovating processes of
all following architects. The exhibition is updated every year.

THE TOURING EXHIBITION
The exhbition includes :
- 1 introduction banner + 30 banners (one per laureate) , available as PDF HD to
print
- 15 documentary - 10 minutes per laureate (2007 to 2009) on DVD (monitors
non provided)
- elements of communication on ftp servor (press release, press images..).
Each laureate is presented by a short text on his approach, illustrated by a serie
of photographs that tell the story and process of a project.
The installation of the device is particularly simple and fast. For the duplicated
elements: either an hanging on banners (cloth) with cables, or a pose of
«wallpaper», this last option allowing a big adaptability the space (cut, etc.).
For movies: from 1 monitor or projector to 15 according to the means of the
exhibitor.
AGREEMENT AND FEES
An agreement will be established with the exhibitor. This one will have to
discharge of 8000 € TTC, included the rights of authors and distribution.
The exhibitor takes in charge the total expense concerned to the presentation
of the exhibition on his site, in particular : expenses of setting and dismantling,
of repacking, round trip transport, possible storage, the insurance, maintenance
and guarding, as well as expenses of promotion and communication. The trip of
managers of the Cité and of the curator, if it is wished, must be taken in charge
by the exhibitor.

MOVIES
The CAP put the exhibitor’s disposal : 15 movies (one film / architect) on DVD -
duration 10 mns per architect. To provide by the exhibitor: from 1 (global movie),
3 (movie per year) ou 15 (movie per architect) projection means (monitors TV or
projectors).
PRESS RELEASE
CAP supplies a press kit on pdf, a graphic standards (logos, images free of
use, layout of invitation card and poster) for the communications tools of the
exhibition.
SERVICES
CAP assures in service: a scenographic sketch on plans of the place of exhibition;
an help for the organization of a lecture or a round table with the persons in
charge and the architects laureates (these must be refund); an help to set up the
exhibition (travel expenses of the assistant CAP taken care by the exhibitor in
addition to the costs of rent).
