Program Eligibility
The KidsCamp summer day camp program will accept the enrollment of any child having completed pre-kindergarten
through seventh grade as of June, 2013.
Program Calendar
The KidsCamp summer day camp program will operate five days per week, except during the weeks of Week 1 (week
Thursday, July 4th and Friday, July 5th.
The regular KidsCamp program will start on Monday, July 1st and continue until Wednesday, August 21st.
To provide parents with as much planning flexibility as possible, the program has been divided into eight (8) “one-week”
modules. Each program module has been developed to be a complete day camp experience in itself, yet a continuum of
“new” as well as high-interest repeat activities for children choosing to enroll for several weeks (minimum two consecutive
weeks), a month, or the entire season.
Program Hours
Program Transportation
An optional, easy-to-use, and comprehensive transportation network has been established for the KidsCamp summer day
camp program. Morning pick-up and afternoon drop-off bus service will be available to most full-day summer program participants.
Parents interested in using the transportation service should check the appropriate item under “Transportation
Preference” on the reverse side of the Program Registration Form and indicate the bus stop their child uses during
the regular school year. If the child does not use school district provided transportation during the regular school year,
the parent should contact the KidsCamp office for the “bus stop” nearest their home prior to registration. Bus stops are
scheduled to be identical to or “as close as possible” to requested bus stops. All program transportation arrangements
will be finalized on Friday, May 31st, and parents registering their child(ren) after this date will need to use
Program Snacks and Lunch
Parents are encouraged to provide their child with a small morning snack, as well as a bag lunch and afternoon snack if
the child is enrolled either in the regular full-day program or the extended-day care program. Snacks and lunches need to
be peanut-free (see “Peanut Allergy Policy).
“Peanut Allergy” Policy
KidsCare of Pennsbury and KidsCamp understand the seriousness of peanut related allergies, and will strive to maintain,
but cannot guarantee or insure, a peanut-free KidsCamp environment for the safety and welfare of all of its participants.
Towards this goal, KidsCamp activities will be peanut and nut free. In addition, parents are asked not to include peanut
related items in their child’s lunch.
Children who have peanut related items (i.e. PB&J sandwich, peanut butter crackers, Peanut Chews, Snickers, etc.) in
their lunch will be required to sit at a separate “Peanut” lunch table.
Parents of children with peanut related allergies are advised that KidsCamp cannot guarantee that its environment will be
completely free of peanut related items.
By allowing their child(ren) to participate in KidsCamp, parents acknowledge that they have fully read and understand
this “Peanut Allergy” Policy, understand that their acceptance of this policy is a condition of their child’s
participation in KidsCamp, and further agree and understand that there is no guarantee of a peanut free environment,
and they accept all risks inherent therein.
Program “Emergency Information Form”
All children participating in the KidsCamp summer day camp program will be required to have updated parent, emergency,
and pick-up information (see Program Registration Form and Student Emergency Information/Emergency
Release/Student “Pick-Up” Authorization Form) on file at all times. These forms must be received no later than
Friday, June 7th. No child will be allowed to start KidsCamp unless all of the above forms are completed and on
file in the KidsCamp office.
It is the responsibility of parents to insure that the KidsCamp office is alerted about special health and medical
conditions concerning their child(ren) at the time of registration.
Parents are required to complete and sign all signature areas on the Student Emergency Information/Emergency
Release/Student “Pick-Up” Authorization Form that will allow staff members to provide first aid to their child, as well as
giving permission for the summoning of and subsequent treatment and transport by emergency medical personnel.
Parents of participants who have a sensitivity to bee stings will be required to have a school district Medication
Dispensing Form completed by their family physician, as well as providing the necessary “pre-measured” dosage of any
prescribed medicine, in its original container, according to School District and KidsCamp policy.
Program “Discipline Exclusion” Policy
Attendance at the KidsCamp summer day camp program is a privilege, and therefore the KidsCamp program and the
Pennsbury School District reserve the right to exclude any participant from the program for any behavior, verbal and/or
physical, deemed inappropriate by staff members and program officials. In such cases, parents will forfeit any tuition fees
paid for the program week in which the exclusion occurs. Any other tuition fees paid in advance will be refunded.
Photo Release Policy
Attendance of a child at KidsCamp implies and grants the parents and/or guardians permission to KidsCamp and/or
KidsCare officials the right to use, reproduce, and/or distribute photographs of their child participating in KidsCamp activities,
without compensation or approval rights, for use in materials created for purposes of promoting the activities of
KidsCamp.
2
Program Activities
Each child attending the KidsCamp summer day camp program will participate in a daily program consisting of a flexible
schedule of high-interest activities and events. The following activity areas represent the major components of KidsCamp.
Program “Weekly” Themes
Special activities (i.e. “hands-on” projects, assembly programs, and field trips) centering around the weekly theme will be
integrated into each week’s program. Some of the activities might include, but are not limited to the following: kaleidoscopes,
“hamming it up” in a “Big Top” performance, Chinese dragons, hot air balloon demonstration, face painting, ice
cream castle building, tom tom drums, and many, many unusual, fun-filled activities. The weekly themes for the KidsCamp
summer day camp program are listed under the Program Weekly Themes section of this portfolio.
Crafts ... and More
No summer camp experience is complete without the usual “hands-on” arts & crafts. The KidsCamp summer day camp
program not only provides its participants with the usual draw, paint, and weaving activities, but also will provide a comprehensive
selection of unusual, high-interest crafts including cooking, metal punching, bottle gardens, basket weaving,
metal embossing, wood burning crafts, tie-dying, sand art, and many, many more.
Each week’s schedule has been arranged to include a variety of arts & crafts activities divided between morning and afternoon
activity times, so that all participants, regardless of enrollment option, will be able to participate in several arts & craft
activities per week.
Outdoor Education & Nature Activities
Outdoor education and nature activities will be a special feature of KidsCamp. Some of these activities will include nature
walks, use of the compass and orienteering skills, identification of animal signs and habitats, as well as a host of other fun
and interesting activities using the outdoors. As part of these activities, local field trips 1 may be made to state and county
parks such as Tyler State Park or Core Creek County Park, and to Silver Lake Nature Center or Churchville Nature Center.
Sports & Physical Activities
Each child will have numerous opportunities to participate in instructional, as well as recreational, sports and physical activities
during the course of a program week. The emphasis in all sports and physical activities will focus on the development
of skills, sportsmanship, and cooperation between players, rather than on competition. Our goal: If you had fun, you won!
Recreational Swimming
KidsCamp
2013
... a unique summertime experience for kids!
All participants will have the option of participating in recreational swimming and pool activities on a weekly basis.
Swimming and pool activities will be held on Tuesday and Thursday of each week at Pennwood Middle School under the
supervision of program staff and American Red Cross certified lifeguards (see “Parent Permission” Policy for further information).
Prior to any child participating in swimming activities, program lifeguards test each participant’s swimming ability.
Participants are then allowed access to designated sections of the pool based on their swimming abilities.
Recreational swimming will include free swimming and water play, diving, as well as organized pool games and activities.
Transportation to and from the pool will be provided by KidsCamp at no additional charge.
other unique activities and events 1 .
Regional, day-long field trips are optional and require separate registration. Advance registration is required for all
how to “creative problem solve” for the “Great Egg Drop Challenge”
video equipment, as well as a host of the most highly popular video games. The video arcade will be a supplemental
day camp activity that will be limited to short periods of time, but will allow camp participants the opportunity to “take a
break” from their busy day camp schedule to relax and “cool off” with a friend or two.
Kids “Eco-Challenge”
The KidsCamp summer day camp program will include specially designed outdoor activities intended to challenge participants
individually, as well as fostering teamwork and cooperation.
These Kids “Eco-Challenge” activities require small groups of children to work together, cooperatively and creatively, to
solve various problems faced by the group which require both mental and physical solutions. Leadership, ingenuity, and
a “We Can Do It” attitude are character traits emphasized and taught through participation in these fun and challenging
activities.
(continued)
An extremely popular activity in the KidsCamp program, KidsCampPlus is a specially designed optional (extra weekly
physically exerting, and activity-packed camp experience.
outside, or cannot tolerate long time exposure in the summer heat.
The focus of KidsCampPlus will be to provide extensive sport and recreational activities, Kids “Eco-Challenge” type activities,
and high interest “hands-on” projects including, but not limited to, woodworking, woodburning, metalcrafts, computer
activities, model railroading, model building, and much, much more.
Parents wanting their older elementary-aged children to participate in this program must check the appropriate space next
KidsCamp
2013
... a unique summertime experience for kids!
“Parent Permission” Policy
As part of the KidsCamp summer day camp program, local field trips and recreational swimming have been included in
the program to enhance each child’s day camp experience.
To avoid misunderstanding or confusion, parents are advised to carefully read and understand the KidsCamp program
field trip policy concerning “implied parent consent/permission” stated below:
1) Recreational swimming will be held on a weekly basis as outlined in the camp newsletter mailed to families prior to
the start of the KidsCamp program.
This recreational swimming activity is optional (no extra charge) and will be held at the Pennwood Middle School
pool. The pool depth ranges from approximately three (3) to eleven (11) feet. In addition to KidsCamp staff, three
(3) or more Red Cross certified lifeguards are on duty and supervise all water activities.
Parents wishing their child to participate in these recreational swimming activities must indicate this preference
under the section entitled “Swimming Activity Preference” on the Day Camp Registration Form. If checked
“yes”, the child(ren) will participate in the recreational swimming option as scheduled for the duration of his/their enrollment
in KidsCamp. An unchecked box in this section will be interpreted as a “no”, so parents must
be alert to completing this section.
Children not participating in the recreational swimming activity will remain at the KidsCamp program and participate
in the regularly scheduled afternoon day camp activities.
2) Local field trips are scheduled on a regular basis throughout the entire KidsCamp program. These field trips include
trips to Core Creek State Park and Silver Ceek Nature Center, as well as trips to special “off-site” activities
such as bowling, miniature golf, roller skating, rock climbing, etc.
Participation in these trips is limited, and participation is optional. Parents are notified about the local field trip(s) in
which their child(ren) will participate via the weekly camp newsletter distributed on Monday of each camp week.
Unless otherwise notified in writing, a child’s attendance at the KidsCamp program “signifies the parental permission
and consent” for the child to participate in local field trips.
3) Should parents choose not to have their child participate in a scheduled KidsCamp day camp program activity, it
is the responsibility of the parent to contact the camp director at KidsCamp. Otherwise, the child will automatically
be allowed to participate in these activities.
Program Registration Guidelines
The following guidelines apply to the KidsCamp summer day camp program:
l Enrollments can be made on a weekly, monthly, or seasonal basis, and are limited. Registrations will be accepted
on a first come, first served basis.
Initial registration for full-time weekly enrollments must be for a minimum of two (2) consecutive weeks, after which
additional weekly enrollment can be made on a week by week basis as desired. Initial registration for part-time
weekly enrollments (minimum of 3 days per week) must be for a minimum of two (2) consecutive weeks.
l Considering the extreme popularity of KidsCamp, KidsCamp reserves the right to change or modify its
registration requirements and available enrollment options based on enrollments, and to close enrollments as
necessary.
Early registration is strongly recommended to guarantee your enrollment option and weeks of attendance.
l A non-refundable registration deposit of $195 (1st child) or $185 (2nd child) must be included with the initial program
registration form. This registration deposit will be credited towards program tuition fees.
l All KidsCamp tuition balances are payable in full as follows:
Weeks 1 - 5 (by Friday, May 31, 2013) Weeks 6 - 8 (by Friday, June 24, 2013)
Participants whose camp fees have not been paid in full by the above deadlines will be prohibited from participating
in KidsCamp until the fees have been paid in full, and no refund of registration deposits will be allowed.
l Use only one registration form per child. If enrolling more than one child, please call for additional registration
forms or visit the KidsCamp website at www.kidscareofpennsbury.com and download the appropriate forms you
need to complete registration.
The Student Emergency Information/Emergency Release/Student “Pick-Up” Authorization Form must be
returned to the KidsCare Doylestown office prior to Friday, June 7th.
l Changes in a child’s enrollment status must be made, in writing, by Friday, May 31st. No enrollment changes
will be accepted after this date, regardless of reason. No refunds or credits will be allowed without this prior written
notification.
l No credit will be allowed for any program days and/or regional trips not attended regardless of reason.
