Associate Athletic Trainer Curtis Self<br />

Coe <strong>College</strong> • 2000<br />

Fifth Season<br />

Curtis Self begins his fifth year with the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Charleston</strong> and his fourth as Associate<br />

Athletic Trainer. He is the Facility Coordinator <strong>of</strong> the Patriots Point Athletic<br />

Training room with sport assignments to the baseball and women’s tennis teams.<br />

Self came to the <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Charleston</strong> after serving as an athletic trainer for the Texas<br />

Rangers Minor League <strong>Baseball</strong> Club for two seasons. While with the Texas Rangers<br />

he was responsible for the evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation associated with<br />

the rookie classification Gulf Coast Rangers. During his stint with the Rangers, Self was also a graduate<br />

assistant at Western Michigan University where he earned his Master <strong>of</strong> Arts degree in Physical Education and<br />

Recreation with an Athletic Training emphasis in 2002.<br />

During the spring <strong>of</strong> 2000 Self interned with the Atlanta Braves’ minor league system during spring training in<br />

Orlando, FL and that summer he served as an athletic trainer for the USTA Boy’s Junior National Tennis<br />

Championship held in Kalamazoo, Michigan. In the summer <strong>of</strong> 1999 Self was an athletic training student at<br />

Notre Dame Summer Camps where he worked with men’s and women’s soccer, baseball, hockey, tennis, and<br />

men’s basketball.<br />

Self graduated from Coe <strong>College</strong> in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a Bachelor <strong>of</strong> Arts degree in Physical Education<br />

and Athletic Training in May 2000. While an athletic training student at Coe <strong>College</strong> he was also a member <strong>of</strong><br />

the men’s swimming team.<br />

Curtis is originally from Grand Island, NE but now resides in Mt. Pleasant, S.C. He is a certified athletic trainer<br />

and has been a member <strong>of</strong> the National Athletic Trainers Association since 1998. He is also CPR and AED<br />

certified.<br />

In 2005, <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Charleston</strong> baseball inducted the first members into its Wall <strong>of</strong> Fame. (L to<br />

R) Scott Oliver(1996-99), Monte Lee (1996-99), Travis Howell (1996-99), Joey Foxhall (1996-<br />

99) and Billy Colome (1998-99).<br />
