has a vacancy for a POLICY OFFICER
on Climate and Energy
The Policy Officer will be based at the EEB headquarters in Brussels and will report to
the EEB Policy Director.
She/he will focus on climate and energy issues with particular emphasis on the
review and revision of the F-Gas Regulation. Other tasks will include work on the
implementation and review of the Energy Efficiency Directive in addition to tracking
developments on EU climate policy in general.
The successful candidate will:
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the relevant topics and carry out specific indepth
research where required;
• Lead the formulation of EEB policy and strategy on the relevant topics and draft
EEB positions;
• Advocate before policymakers on administrative and legislative matters, including
before the European Commission, European Parliament, the Council of the
European Union, and Member States;
• Network with EEB members to promote activities to influence EU decision-making
in the relevant fields, in particular coordinating the EEB Working Groups on F-Gases
and Energy Savings;
• Collaborate, coordinate and exchange information with actual and potential
partners (e.g. Green 10, Coalition for Energy Savings, Green Budget Europe);
• Publicly present and defend EEB’s positions, including with the media, in
collaboration with the Policy Director and the Press and Publications Officer; and
• Provide input to general EEB documents and processes (e.g. memoranda to
Presidencies, reports to EEB Board, relevant web pages, etc).
Qualities and Experiences sought:
• Have a relevant academic degree (additional work experience may be accepted
in lieu of this);
• Have at least two years of work experience with EU environmental policy,
preferably but not necessarily with NGOs, including analysis and formulation of
policy;
• Have in-depth familiarity with climate and energy issues and a good
understanding of key elements of EU environmental legislative processes;
• Be capable of understanding and presenting, in written and oral form, the key
scientific, economic and legal dimensions of the relevant topics;
• Have a sound grasp of the operation of EU institutions and EU environmental law;

• Have good communications and networking skills;
• Speak and write English fluently, with fluency in other EU languages being
considered an asset;
• Be well organized and able to work independently and as part of a team;
• Be prepared to work outside normal office hours if necessary and to travel at
short notice.
EEB offers:
