• A committee member has been identified for each of DNR's Geographic Management Units
(GMUs) they are to contact the GMU Water Leader in their area and find out what is
happening with TMDLs, priorities, schedule, etc., and how we can make sure technical
input is provided to stakeholders groups.
• EPA continues progress on nutrient criteria. There are guidance documents available for
lakes and rivers/streams. Criteria are planned for N, P, Chlorophyll and clarity (e.g.,
secchi). Criteria will be based on "reference" streams. It would appear that P values in the
50 to 100 ug/L range and N values in the 250 to 500 ug/L range. It will be very important
for the membership to provide input to DNR's process for developing the criteria and the
response to the criteria for permitting. Without good input, we will probably not like the
outcome. We should begin having something to comment on early next year.
• DNR has not called for a meeting of the Watershed Advisory Group for several months.
This is a disappointment because there is a lot to talk about (above two items for example).
• Jane Carlson has volunteered for the committee. She is the coordinator of Environmental
Science at Strand/PEH/TAI and has an excellent background in the areas of interest.
