Shaping the future one student at a time Attending University Liggett School reshaped my life as a student. I had always done well in school, but my experience at Liggett in the Upper School took my studies to the next level and prepared me for college. There were many unique opportunities afforded to me as a Liggett student. The small class size was something I had not experienced before and the personalized attention I received was invaluable. The course material was challenging and provided me with an excellent foundation. I had always been involved in athletics and was excited and encouraged to continue on that path at Liggett. My time as a student influenced my college career and professional path by preparing me for the road ahead. The academic demands at Liggett really paved the way to college for me. I was ready for the workload in college and had the study skills to help me succeed. Blue book exams were something I was very familiar with in the Upper School, so when I went to college, I did not find them intimidating at all. At Liggett, I was encouraged to be in charge of my learning and that helped prepare me to take charge of my college education as well. Inspired by my Liggett Senior Project at an advertising agency, I had several other advertising internships during my summers in college that helped lead me to my first job at an advertising agency. I believe that it was a combination of my education and real-world experience that gave me an advantage in the professional world. My role as an alumna and parent advocate for Liggett is very important to me because I believe in what Liggett has to offer its students. I know that the academically challenging course work and personalized education I received many years ago is still offered to students today. With all the advances in technology, the way children learn today is very different from the way it was for me years ago, and Liggett has embraced and incorporated these tools into how it teaches students today. My husband Michael and I decided to enroll our children at Liggett because of the challenging academic environment, small class size and personalized education we knew they would receive. All three of our children started in Pre-K 3 and we have had the pleasure of watching them grow as young people and students of learning. Today, our oldest Nick is a freshman, Madeleine is in seventh grade and Alec is in fifth grade. My children’s experience at Liggett mirrors my own experience in many ways in that they too experience the benefits of the small classroom size and a challenging academic environment. All of the teachers know all the students and vice versa. This type of environment is conducive to their learning and their ability to be critical thinkers and good citizens. I have been an advocate of the school and active volunteer since my children first started in the Lower School over 10 years ago and I continue to enjoy being involved in the Liggett community today. I have served on the school’s Board of Trustees and have been very involved in the Liggett Logo Store, promoting and selling school spirit related items. I also have been involved in the school’s annual fundraising event and have enjoyed giving back to the school that has given me so much. Staying connected to Liggett keeps me connected to my children and the history that we share. 17
