Dear 4-H Families,
Green Lake County UW‐Extension
Thank you for all you do. It is with mixed emotions that I am announcing
my resignation from the position of 4-H Youth Development Educator here
in Green Lake County. I have accepted the Markesan Agriculture Teacher
and FFA Advisor position in Markesan.
Over the past 6 plus years I have had the pleasure of working with many
of the best volunteers and 4-H members in the state. Green Lake really
does have a good thing growing as was our fair theme this year.
As you transition to a new 4-H Agent keep the momentum going and
keep doing what you have been doing. There is outstanding office support
here to answer any questions you have. Kathy and Kim both have a great
working knowledge of 4-H and events throughout this fall and are the
backbone. Green Lake is very blessed to have such passionate, hardworking,
and caring support staff leading our office.
My family will still be residing in Green Lake and my children will
continue as members of a Green Lake 4-H club. I strongly recommend
that any 4-H questions that you have be directed to UW-Extension office. I
will be active at the fair in 2013, so hopefully I will see many of you there.
Thanks again for all you do,
Dean Slark
Greetings 4-H Families and Volunteers!
Congratulations everyone on a job well done at the fair! I love seeing the
creativity, dedication, hard work, and talent that our 4-H’ers put into the fair and 4-
H program. I would like to thank all of the parents, youth, and volunteers who
helped to make this year’s fair a great one.
As the 4-H year is drawing to a close, take time to reflect on it. What did you
most enjoy about 4-H this year Is there something you would have done
different Now think about your 4-H past. Take time to reflect on your 4-H
experience and be proud of all you have accomplished the past year and the
impact you have made on your club, your community, your county, and your world.
Now let’s take a look at the upcoming 4-H year. What would you like to change
or try different Is there a way you can get more involved in 4-H at a club, county,
or state level How can you strengthen your leadership role within your club I
ask all of you to think about these questions and think of how you want to see your
new 4-H year play out and how you can have an impact on 4-H and those involved
in the program.
Enjoy your upcoming 4-H year and go out and “Make the Best Better!”
Beth Johnson, Family Living Educator
I am happy to share the news that I will be permanently joining the UW-Extension team in Green Lake
County as the Family Living Educator. That’s right, there is not ‘interim’ word at the beginning of my
title! Thank you to everyone who have extended a welcoming gesture to me throughout the past year.
I have made many great connections and friendships. I was honored to be asked to teach at Super
Saturday and met so many great 4-H youth. We made soft pretzels and shared recipes for cheese dip. Some families
still talk about the wonderful cheese dip recipe. I like that and hope we can work together to create many
more Super Saturday and other 4-H memories together. The fair was a wonderful way for me to reflect on where
I was just one year ago and now how many more people I know. There are many things that you can expect from
me in the months to come. Some things I want to make sure you are aware of include the wonderful fundraiser
the Home & Community Education (HCE) members have at the Green Lake Golden Harvest Fest on Saturday, September
29 th and 30 th . The county group will be selling walking tacos on Saturday while the Wisconsin Bookworms
readers will be selling popcorn and working the Scarecrow Spin game which will help offset the expense
of purchasing the eight books that 150 young children throughout Green Lake County receive throughout the
school year from our wonderfully dedicated HCE Wisconsin Bookworms readers. I will also be offering a
Strengthening Families 10-14 Program for youth between the ages of 10 & 14 and their parents. If your family fits
that range, please contact me at the office.
and insurance arrangements. Tuesday, September 4 th , 2012 at 1:00
