Diameter selection
The choice of flow rate for an electromagnetic flowmeters depends on the diameter of the sensor. The
higher pipe diameter, the higher flow rate can be measured. A determining parameter for flow rates is
maximum velocity of the liquid. Maximum velocity is the speed, where the flow of liquid inside pipe is still
laminar. In M910 it is limited to 10m/s (with 125% overload). Speed over 10 m/s is usually too high for
industrial applications. Such diameter of pipe is usually selected, where expected flow rate is between
Q 5% and Q 50% .
In the table bellow applicable flow rates for various diameters is displayed in l/s and m 3 /hr.
- M920 minimum applicable flow rate (minimum flow rate with guaranteed accuracy)
- M910, M930 minimum applicable flow rate (minimum flow rate with guaranteed accuracy)
- recommended minimum flow rate (minimum flow rate with best accuracy)
- recommended nominal flow rate (expected working flow rate)
- recommended maximum flow rate (maximum flow rate for industrial use)
- maximum applicable flow rate (maximum flow rate with guaranteed accuracy)
- maximum applicable overload (Q 125% ) (flowmeters is still measuring)
A sensor diameter should be chosen to keep real flow rate between Q 5% and Q 50% , because in this
range the flowmeters has the best accuracy.
