What areas am I prohibited from smoking and tobacco use<br />
The chewing and/or smoking of tobacco is not permitted in the following areas:<br />
• Building interiors, including but not limited to all classrooms, labs, offices, hallways<br />
and restrooms;<br />
• Building entrances and exits, and all areas within thirty feet of any such entrance or<br />
exit, including but not limited to the South Portland Campus Center Courtyard;<br />
• Smoke free areas:<br />
1. Walkways, parking lots and roadways on and around Campus Center Drive,<br />
Campus Center Front Courtyard and the Dining Hall on the South Portland<br />
Campus; AND<br />
2. The entire Midcoast Campus except for a designated smoking shelter.<br />
• State- or college-owned vehicles.<br />
Are there any areas I am allowed to engage in smoking and tobacco use<br />
There are three smoking huts on the South Portland Campus where students are allowed to chew<br />
and/or smoke tobacco which are located:<br />
• Outside Hildreth Science Center - #99 on the campus map<br />
• In-between Howe & Preble Hall<br />
• Outside the Health Science Center - #79 on the campus map<br />
What should I do if I see someone violating the smoking and tobacco policy<br />
• Remind or inform the person of this policy;<br />
• Ask the person to move to a designated tobacco/smoking area; AND/OR<br />
• Contact Security at 207-741-5553. Security will also remind the person of this policy and ask<br />
them to move to a designated tobacco/smoking area.<br />
What are the penalties for not following the smoking and tobacco policy<br />
• As a student you may be fined $15 per violation and the instance may be reported to<br />
the college Disciplinary Officer for review.<br />
• As an employee, your supervisor will be notified for consideration of discipline.<br />
• As a visitor, security may escort you off campus and issue a criminal trespass warning.<br />
