AHEPA Chapter # 375 ( Eagle Rock) hosted a discussion of
Rebetica lead by Grigori Maninakis, the entertainer and director
of the Mikrokosmos Ensemble. There were 35 attendees at the
new church of SS Nicholas, Constatntine & Helen Church at 80
Laurel Ave, Roseland, NJ. The discussion was on the history of
Rebetica, how it started, where it started from, why it started
and by whom. A number of composers were discussed, and
their style of music as we listened to a CD with their music.
A number of interesting questions were answered as more
discussion followed. Refreshments were served after the
discussion. More events are scheduled for the future. An after
Christmas, Christmas Party in January, and two more interesting

Monroe #75 Celebrates
Holiday Season with a
Turkey Dinner

Thursday Nov. 15, Monroe 75, New Brunswick, held it’s annual
Thanksgiving day dinner at The Stoneybrook Grill and Restaurant in
North Branch, N.J.. The event was a resounding success. Beginning
with a prayer, led by President John Millas, followed by the
recognition of attending dignataries, a traditional turkey dinner, with
all the trimmings was served. As always, brothers Nick Kumarianos
and Simos Kontos did an outstanding presentation of the menu.
Brothers Tom Vastardis, Anthony Kamarinopoulos, and Panos
Stavrianides were presented with a ten, thirty, thirty-five year Ahepa
Service pin. The presentation was made by District Secretary Stanley
Gerondelis and President John Millas.
The good food and warm fellowship, enjoyed by all, has once more
demonstrated the role of Ahepa as our extended family.
SUPREME LODGE VISITS THE ALEXANDER HAMILTON CHAPTER
On Tuesday evening, November 27th the Alexander Hamilton Chapter
#54 held a mass initiation of four new initiates. Two were from Alexander
Hamilton and two were from Eagle Rock Chapter #375. The event took
place at Rudy’s Restaurant in Hackensack, NJ.
The Supreme Lodge was present on that evening to conduct the
initiation ceremony. Visiting dignitaries include Supreme President John
Grossomanides, Supreme Vice President Anthony Kouzounis, and Supreme
Governor Jimmy Kokotas. The District Lodge was also in attendance.
Those present enjoyed a delicious makaronada dinner, prepared by
President Louis Arvanitis.
The chapter made many presentations throughout the evening including a
$5,000 donation to the Fifth District Cancer Research Foundation,
$500 to Hurricane Sandy Relief and also 2,000 pounds of turkey for the
victims of Hurricane Sandy. Other donations were also made to various
AHEPA programs which included the children of St Basils Academy and
AHEPA PAC.
RECOGNITION OF OMISSION: In a prior March 25th flag raising
event at the Bergen County Courthouse, the Alexander Hamilton Chapter
54 honored Mr Tony Papamarklou, owner of the Graycliff caterers of
Moonachie, for his past service to AHEPA and his support of Hellenic
causes. Mr Papamarklou is also a supporter of the AHEPA Voice and a
regular advertiser. This honor was not reported and as a result not printed.
