The <strong>Town</strong> is planned as a whole to function as a complete<br />
community providing the necessary living accommodation<br />
employment and services to its residents This is the basis for<br />
the Growth Management Strategy described in Section 4 1 1<br />

good range <strong>of</strong> jobs and easy access to retail and services to<br />
meet daily needs<br />

4 1 10 3 1 Community plans and Secondary Plans will contain policies to<br />
ensure that <strong>Caledon</strong> s settlement areas are<br />
planned<br />
in such a<br />
way as to contribute to the development <strong>of</strong> <strong>Caledon</strong> as a<br />
complete community are well designed and <strong>of</strong>fer<br />
transportation choices an appropriate mix <strong>of</strong> housing and<br />
range <strong>of</strong> jobs and provide goods and services in keeping with<br />
their function within the hierarchy <strong>of</strong> settlements set out in<br />
Section 4 1 1 <strong>of</strong> this Plan<br />
4 1 10 3 2 <strong>Caledon</strong> will participate jointly with the Region <strong>of</strong> Peel and area<br />
municipalities in the preparation <strong>of</strong> an assessment tool for<br />
evaluating the public health impacts <strong>of</strong> development proposals<br />
4 1 10 3 3 <strong>Caledon</strong> will work jointly with the Region <strong>of</strong> Peel and area<br />
municipalities to raise awareness <strong>of</strong> public health issues<br />

4 2 GROWTH MANAGEMENT<br />
4 2 1 Intensification<br />
4 2 1 1 Introduction<br />
To make better use <strong>of</strong> land and infrastructure the Province has<br />
included policies in the Growth Plan to promote compact urban<br />
form intensification and redevelopment including<br />
an<br />
intensification target for the upper and single tier municipalities<br />
in the Greater Golden Horseshoe By the year 2015 and for<br />
each year thereafter a minimum <strong>of</strong> 40 per cent <strong>of</strong> all residential<br />
development occurring annually will be within the built up area<br />
The Province has issued mapping <strong>of</strong> the built up area which is<br />
defined as the area that was built as <strong>of</strong> June 2006<br />

up area for <strong>Caledon</strong> is shown on<br />
Figure 1 Areas within<br />
existing settlements that were not built as <strong>of</strong> June 2006 are<br />
identified as the designated Greenfield Area Small rural<br />
settlements and the Palgrave Estate Residential Community do<br />
not have a defined built up area and are identified as<br />
