the professionails brand has been growing from strength to strength, this in turn 

meant that we had to ensure that our resources were adequately placed to handle 

the continued success of the professionails Brand. thus, we took the decision to 

reinforce professionails with a new business partner – paul parein. paul parein 

and catherine claus are now the joint force behind the development and future 

growth of the professionails Brand. paul has spent the last 6 months actively 

endeavoring to personally meet many of the professionails distributors, he has 

been welcomed with great enthusiasm and warmth. 

as you started your winter, the creative team of professionails discovered that the 

summer of 2010 would be one full of surprises. 

colours and motives where jumping off the catwalks. designers went wild on the 

models. Body’s were dressed with magnificent colourful and perfectly cut tunics 

and walked their sexy parade in the sexiest lingerie inspired outfits. 

accessories appeared massively : many colourful draped shawls on shoulders 

and hips, gorgeous buttons, belts over belts, large bracelets, heavy necklaces, 

bags with all kinds of knitting, extravagantly decorated high heels and flat sandals, 

finger free mittens with delicate jewelry, nothing stopped creativity. 

all this inspired us to dedicate our naily news almost entirely to next spring and 

summer trends in a special called Following Fashion. 

per fashion trend we guide you through our offer of nail polishes, perfection colour 

gels and our newest gellak colours. we offer you nail art tips, for you to be 

able to consult and advice your clients more accurately. in your salon, present all 

our colours together with fashion images out from fashion magazines, in an organized 

way. this will help your clients choose their colours in combination with 

her clothing and desires. 

today we expand our gellak range with a few light and humorous colours.

the bull fighting (corrida de toros or tauromaquia) is a, 

although not acceptable, century old traditional popular 

amusement held in spain, portugal, south of France and 

latin-amerika. Female matadors are truly an exception. 

tAUrOMAqUiA iS AND rEMAiNS A MEN’S BAStiON! 

mari paz vega is, in the entire matador history, known as 

the second most recognised matador women. at the age 

of 32, the lady received the highest recognition as torero 

during the well known san isidro festival in the las ventas 

bullring in madrid, the cathedral of the bull fighting. 

But the debut of matador vega, according to the spanish 

press, was not extraordinary. the madrid public, known as 

the most demanding in the world, received her performance 

with standing ovations. vega killed many bulls during 

her career, but you become a real matador (killer) when 

you perform in, las ventas’’. it’s a kind of test and a final 

exam for each torero. until now this honour was offered 

to only one woman, mrs christina sanchez who became a 

matador in 1998. mari paz vega comes out of family of bull 

fighters. her father was also a torero, but he never became 

a matador. his daughter, together with her 5 brothers, went 

to the bull fighters school of malaga at the age of nine and 

when she was 14 she killed her first young bull. in 2000 she 

was seriously gored in the leg and fractured a femur. ‘everybody 

says you are not a true matador until you’ve been 

hurt,’ she says. ‘you have to find out whether you are capable 

of getting over it and getting back in the ring.’

“she is very brave, but for a women this is a very heavy 

profession”, says her brother Jorge. 

today there is only one other active female matador - 

spain’s raquel sanchez - and a handful of apprentices. 

the world of bull fighters basically remains a men’s bastion: 

no ’matadora’s’ or ’torera’s’ but ’matadors’ en ’torero’s’, 

also for women.

1. in circumstances of excessive cuticle 

tissue on the nail bed - use a fine 

sander or diamond drill on the lowest 

speed, to remove the dead tissue. 

move your nail machine lightly over 

and around the cuticle area only once 

2. smooth down calluses around the 

nail bed. use a fine sander and do not 

forget to use pronails vitamina on a 

regular base to avoid buildup of new 

calluses. 

3. smooth down natural nail ridges.

4. create animal prints - use the

Become a nail stylist with super abilities just by using your electric file. Your nail machine

machine with medium to high speed 

and a rough sander. it is quick and 

easy, much easier than hand filing. 

12. cut out the white. use French fill 

carbide to cut out the free edge between 

the pink-and-white backfills. 

FOr PEDicUrES 

13. remove callus on the bottom of 

feet. use a pedicure bit sweeping in a 

one-way motion to remove callus and 

smooth hard-to-reach areas. 


14. reduce the thickness of toenails. 

use a bullet-shaped bit, not only to remove 

callus but also to thin down thick 

toenails. 

15. get rid of ridges. like fingernails, 

toenails get bumpy. take any ridges 

out with a rough sander. 

16. Keep nail polish longer on nails. 

use a diamond prepper bit before finishing 

with applying nail polish. always 

use pronails FiX plus before polish 

application. the polish on the nails 

dries absolutely smooth and beautiful 

and lasts a lot longer. 

remember, if you are unable to disinfect 

a sander or bit, it should only be 

used once and then disposed of.

acrylics, which are used for nail sculpturing 

to build up artificial nails. these 

are hardened through uv-light, visual 

light or by adding a hardener. when 

working with these materials the risk 

of developing over¬sensitivity is increased, 

it is therefore very important 

to know the risks and how to protect 

the operator from them.

many people who work with gels or 

acrylics aren’t aware of the risks. it’s 

usually not the finished product of 

rigid plastic that is dangerous, but the 

chemical components that are mixed 

together to form the material. 

-it is also important to remember 

that the odour free gels are acrylics. 

most components in acrylics are irritating 

for eyes, skin and respiratory 

passages and give symptoms such as 

eczema, dry mucous membrane and 

asthma. irritation occurs due to exposure 

to gases or aerosols, also dust 

that appears when grinding nails gives 

these symptoms if unreacted chemical 

components are left in the nail. 

in a nail salon there are other dangerous 

substances; for example; nail 

polish, nail strengtheners and polish 

remover can also give problems for 

the operator and client. 

to know what the products contain 

and what risks they constitute, always 

ask the supplier for a msds (material 

safety data sheet).

hOW TO MAKE ThE PERFEcT APEX 

AND c cURVE? 

The right way 

learn to make the perfect apex and c curve on nails is 

easier with uv gel than with acrylics. this application of 

the curve can be perfected before curing the gel under the 

uv lamp. almost all today’s uv gels are self leveling gels. 

The wrong way 

uv gel should never be applied in strokes. 

this will cause a flat nail without any curve. as the uv gel 

tends to shrink under the uv lamp, after curing the nail

hOW TO USE ThE BRUSh cORREcTlY

AND c cURVE? 


take some gel out of your jar using your brush like a spoon. 

one side of the brush holds gel. the other side holds remains 

free of gel. deposit the gel in a circular movement 

on the nail. then move gel onto the nail with the gel with 

the tip of the brush. the brush should never come off the 

nail until the product is placed in all areas of the nail. First 

apply the gel in the middle of the nail and work towards 

the cuticles and the tip of the nail. continue to control the 

curve of the nail by lifting the finger and checking the curve 

from all sides. Be careful not to apply too much product 

too close to the cuticle which can cause lifting. the gel 

should never touch the sidewalls or the cuticle area. add 

gel if necessary but only in the middle area of the nail. do 

not work too long as the gel will self level and eventually 

cause a flat shape. 

hOW TO cURE A hiGh GlOSS GEl 

TO A FUll hiGh GlOSS? 

all high gloss gels need to be applied in a consistent layer. 

this means that if the layer is too thin the high gloss gel 

might break or crack during curing. each top layer needs 

to cure for the recommended time of curing. the time of 

curing as well as the freshness of the bulbs may influence 

the shine of the gloss gel.

hOW TO MAiNTAiN BRUShES 

iN GOOD ShAPE AND hEAlTh? 

Before using your new brush, clean your brush with a specific 

brush cleaner for gel brushes. not an acrylic brush 

cleaner! a gel brush cleaner contains alcohol and disinfects 

your brushes. gel brushes are generally made of a 

synthetic material called takalon or natural hair kolinsky 

sable. 

never hold a brush close to uv light or sun light when gel 

is onto the brush as the product will cure in the brush. 

a damaged brush will have to be replaced by a new one. 

clean the brush thoroughly after each use and keep the 

brush in a separate brush box. never use acetone on a 

takalon brush or natural hair brush as acetone will ruin 

the quality of the brush. use a separate brush for dark or 

light coloured gels as well as for glittered gels. 

gel brushes kept in good shape and condition will last for years. 

WhEN TO chANGE ThE UV BUlBS 

iN A UV lAMP? 

a long term 

investment 

when a gel is not curing properly, the cause is almost always 

the quality of the uv lamps. we recommend changing the 

bulbs in your uv light at least once a year, if you do not 

use your lamp regularly. if you use your lamp all day long, 

change your lamps every 3 to 4 months maximum.

WhAT GOES WRONG WhEN cOlOUR 

GEl DOES NOT cURE ENTiRElY? 

each time a colour gel jar is opened, the gel and the colour 

pigments should be mixed well as the pigment is heavier 

than the gel itself. if the gel is not used regularly the 

pigments will deposit to the bottom of the jar. use a flat 

previously disinfected metal implement to mix along the 

sidewalls and down into the jar folding the gel on top of the 

jar. make sure all remains of pigments down in the jar are 

mixed through the full jar of gel. 

this way the gel can be used to the very bottom of the jar 

with the same consistency of pigments and colour. 

apply each coat in thin coats and cure separately. darker 

colours need more coats than lighter colours. if thick 

coats are applied the uv light will not be able to catch all 

gel parts around the thick mass of pigments and the curing 

will never be even and total. this may cause lifting of 

the gel. some areas of the nail will cure more rapidly than 

others. this results in an uneven curing and a ‘waved’ layer 

when an even layer was expected.

hOW TO MAKE DiFFERENT 

WhiTE SMilE liNES WiTh UV GEl?

this smile can only be made with an opaque paint-on thin 

and well covering white gel. 

on tips or on natural nails: perfection colour gel 80 or unicum

HOW TO AVOID BURNING 

OF GELS ON NAILS? 

Thick gel application is the primary cause of heat sensation 

during its polymerization. Most builder gels are applied in a 

thicker layer and cause heat sensation. 

How to avoid the burning sensation? 

Ensure to apply a base gel in a even layer. 

Apply a thin layer of builder gel before the application of 

the final builder layer. 

Do not enter the full hand under the UV lamp when curing 

but deposit the hand in front of the lamp during the 

first 15 seconds. Make sure that only a few rays of UV light 

fall onto the nails. Enter the hand into the lamp only after 

these first 15 seconds. 

Enter the hand in the lamp during 10 seconds to fix the 

gel, remove the hand, wait a few seconds and re-enter the 

hand again. Repeat this action until heat does not appear 

anymore. 

If a heat sensation occurs, pull the fingers out of the light 

until the reaction stops; then put them back in gradually. 

Tip: Professionails Unicum gels are non burning UV gels.

HOW TO AVOID GEL LIFTING? 

After the application of builder gels (with our without French 

smiles). When total curing of the gel is finished and sticky 

remains are removed with a non acetone based products 

(important for soakable gels), gel nails should be controlled 

on apex and c curve. Light filing is advised especially around 

the cuticle area and nail tip. 

The most common cause of gel lifting around the cuticle 

area is a lack of smooth and even finish of the gel with the 

nail plate and the sidewalls. 

The builder gel should never be applied too close to the cuticles 

- there should always be enough space left for the Gloss 

gel to be applied as an overall seal to the application.

read Carefully our appliCation method hereunder: 

1. 

If necessary, carry our cuticle maintenance and to 

ensure a clean nail surface use PRONAILS CUTICLE 

REMOVER (1) and a manicure stick (orange wood 

stick). Excessive cuticle tissue may be cut away with 

cuticle nippers (2), however, you must be competent 

and trained to use this tool. You can also prep the nail 

using the electric nail file using fine sander only on 

a low speed.. 

2. To prep nail using the Electric nail file use the PRO- 

FEssIONAILs NAIL DRILL with the FINE sANDER. 

Remove all shiny remains on the nail. Use the machine 

from right to left side or in the up-down movement 

ensuring that the file is moving in the opposite direction 

to the rotation of the nail file. If you do not wish to 

use the NAIL file, use a WHITE BUFFER BLOCK (3). 

3. File the natural nail to the desired shape with the 

PROFESSIONAILS BLACK BOARD WOOD (4). 

4. Disinfect the nail with PROFESSIONAILS PRO SCEP- 

TIC (5) and remove disinfectant and dust with a tissue. 

5. With BRUSH n°0 (7) apply PROFESSIONAILS ACID 

FREE PRIMER (6) on natural nail surface only.

6. With your PROFESSIONAILS UV GEL BRUSH CRYS- 

TAL MEDIUM (8) apply the PROFEssIONAILs GELLAK 

PRIMO. This gel must be applied well on the nail contour. 

Do not use too much gel, and ensure that product 

is not touching any soft tissue around the nail. 

7. Cure for 2 minutes under the UV GEL LAMP. The lamp 

does not dry the gel, but hardens the gel. After curing 

the gel will still be sticky. 

8. 

If the nails require building to a c-curve, Immediately 

after the first cure apply a second gel layer of PRO- 

FESSIONAILS GELLAK PRIMO - this time place the 

gel in the middle part of the nail to strengthen the nail. 

Following the PROFEssIONAILs NAIL bY FXING ME- 

THOD = cure the gel on each finger for a few seconds 

while applying the gel on the same finger of the other 

hand. This way you’ll avoid gel running into the cuticle 

and side walls. When all nails are done with this 

method, cure them for all full 2 minutes. 

9. Now you need to file the gel: Wipe away sticky remains 

with Professionails Non Aceton Polish remover (9). 

start filing the nail to a smooth surface with Professionails 

Clinifile green (10) or Professionails Clinifile 

orange (11) or Professionails New Generation file (12) 

(depending of your preferences). Finish with Professionails 

Soft Finisher (13) file. Use your electric nail file 

with a fine sander to finish the gel around contour of 

the cuticle area to an extreme thin application. 

10. Remove any dust with PROFEssIONAILs PRO scEP- 

TIc and wipe away with a tissue 

11. Apply your first layer of Professionails Gellak colour 

on 2 fingers and cure. 

12. Proceed to the next 2 fingers of the other hand and cure. 

13. continue to the 2 next fingers of the first hand and cure.

of the nail. The top should be round in 

hart shape. Use Professionails UV gel 

brush Deluxe Medium; cure this layer 

for 2 minutes. 

2. Apply Gellak n°7 A Kind of blue 

with Professionails UV gel brush 

Deluxe small and create horizontal 

stripes leaving some white to appear. 


1. With Pronails stripping colour 

Aqua Marine (ref 38665) and using 

shape & Design brush make large 

circles on the nail. 

2. Fill the space between the circles 

with Propaint carotte using soft Liner 

brush. 

3. Using slim brush n°2 and 

Perfection colour Gel n°1 Laguna 

and add darker accents onto the blue 

Gellak. 

4. Now use Gellak n°7 A Kind of blue 

with slim brush n° 2 and melt both
