<strong>1.</strong> <strong>Description</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>training</strong> <strong>system</strong> – <strong>initial</strong> <strong>and</strong> continuing <strong>training</strong> for<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essionals in <strong>the</strong> field <strong>of</strong> guidance <strong>and</strong> advisory services<br />

Initial <strong>training</strong> for specialized career guidance counselors consists <strong>of</strong>:<br />

- <strong>the</strong>oretical <strong>and</strong> practical base including all existing <strong>the</strong>ories <strong>and</strong> models<br />

in career guidance <strong>and</strong> counseling, along with <strong>the</strong>ir implications <strong>and</strong> applications;<br />

- studies in psychological assessment methods used in career guidance<br />

<strong>and</strong> counseling;<br />

- studies in work <strong>and</strong> organizational psychology;<br />

- practical <strong>training</strong> in employment services<br />

Recommendations on continuing <strong>training</strong> needs include:<br />

- To make explicit <strong>the</strong> types <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ories that are appropriate for guidance<br />

<strong>and</strong> to test <strong>and</strong> evaluate those <strong>the</strong>ories<br />

- To elaborate a <strong>the</strong>oretical model for guidance <strong>and</strong> test <strong>and</strong> evaluate this<br />

model<br />

- To provide access to guidance workers to <strong>training</strong> for guidance<br />

- Funding for such <strong>training</strong><br />

- The provision <strong>of</strong> web-based <strong>training</strong> modules for guidance workers<br />

- To provide opportunities in <strong>initial</strong> <strong>and</strong> recurrent <strong>training</strong> for trainees to<br />

become skilled <strong>and</strong> confident in using Internet-based guidance resources<br />

- For guidance workers to take responsibility for <strong>the</strong>ir continued<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>essional development in this field<br />

The set <strong>of</strong> competencies that guidance workers should learn <strong>and</strong> develop in<br />

<strong>initial</strong> <strong>and</strong> recurrent <strong>training</strong>:<br />

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> decision-making styles<br />

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> perception <strong>of</strong> information learning<br />

- Capacity to organize information for clients coming from different<br />

backgrounds<br />

- Ability to evaluate information, web sites, s<strong>of</strong>tware, client readiness<br />

- Computer literacy especially for guidance delivery<br />

- Self-protection against information overload<br />

- Group facilitation skills <strong>of</strong> moderating news/chat groups<br />

- Advice-giving <strong>and</strong> empathy within pr<strong>of</strong>essional boundaries<br />

- Information-type <strong>and</strong> client-type counseling skills

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> job search skills using <strong>the</strong> Internet<br />

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> target group needs related to Internet education <strong>and</strong> job<br />

- Knowledge <strong>of</strong> quality <strong>and</strong> ethical issues related to web-based guidance<br />

- Intercultural competency to manage transnational guidance<br />

2. Types <strong>of</strong> <strong>training</strong> requested to modernize <strong>the</strong> guidance <strong>system</strong><br />

- <strong>Training</strong> for better knowing <strong>and</strong> underst<strong>and</strong>ing <strong>the</strong> world <strong>of</strong> work <strong>and</strong><br />

its rapid changes;<br />

- <strong>Training</strong> for integrating <strong>the</strong> concept <strong>of</strong> lifelong learning;<br />

- <strong>Training</strong> for knowing <strong>and</strong> using Internet resources for guidance.<br />
