Student Services<br />
Librarians are available to assist with research needs during the<br />
library’s regular business hours. <strong>The</strong> libraries also offer two 1-unit<br />
credit courses in Library Research and Internet Research Methods.<br />

South Gate Educational Center<br />
<strong>The</strong> Center offers academic programs that meet a variety of student<br />
needs. For the high school student, a Bridge Program is currently<br />
underway with the surrounding high schools. For the high school<br />
graduate, the college offers services such as counseling and transfer<br />
advisement. For the working adult, the college provides a number of<br />
certificates of achievement that serve to either enhance their present<br />
working skills, train them for a better position or prepare them for a<br />
new career altogether.<br />
<strong>The</strong> South Gate Educational Center is currently located at 2340 Firestone<br />
Blvd., South Gate, California, 90280-2646.<br />

Transfer Center - E1-176<br />
<strong>The</strong> Transfer Center provides many services to students wishing to<br />
transfer to four-year colleges and universities. <strong>The</strong> Center publishes<br />
a monthly calendar of activities that includes: workshops on specific<br />
majors; assistance with college and financial aid applications; <strong>College</strong><br />
Fairs; and more.<br />
University representatives from UCLA, USC, and California State<br />
<strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong>, among many others, visit the center on a regular basis to<br />
provide up-to-date information on the admission requirements, support<br />
programs and services, financial aid, housing facilities, and specific<br />
majors. Students can make appointments with representatives or<br />
attend a workshop to shop around for the university of their choice.<br />
A complete library of college/university catalogs, and brochures on<br />
transfer are available to all students. Assistance with applications for<br />
the University of California, California State Universities, and some<br />
independent colleges is available in the Center. Application fee waivers<br />
are available for eligible students.<br />

through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.<br />
Math Tutoring Lab - K5 Building<br />
All students can take advantage of free mathematics tutoring through<br />
the Math Tutoring Lab. Walk-in peer tutoring help is available for all<br />
mathematics courses. Students are asked to register for a free tutorial<br />
section and login and out to keep track of the hours they spend in the<br />
lab. <strong>The</strong> lab is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. until 9<br />
p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., and on Saturday from 9 a.m.<br />
until 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary. Video tapes and calculators<br />
are available for checkout upon request (video tapes may go home for<br />
3 days, calculators may only be checked out and used in the center).<br />

MEnTe Program Lab - K5 Building<br />
Any mathematics student can make use of the mathematics tutorial<br />
software on the computers in the MEnTe Lab. <strong>The</strong> Lab contains software<br />
for courses from basic arithmetic through calculus. Students can<br />
also use the Lab for completing work for on-line mathematics courses.<br />
All students who are taking mathematics courses are automatically<br />
given user names and passwords to access the software. Students who<br />
wish to access mathematics software but are not registered for mathematics<br />
courses may register for the free tutorial section through the<br />
Math Tutoring Center that shares the Lab with the MEnTe Program.<br />
<strong>The</strong> lab is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. through 9<br />
p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m.<br />

Writing Center K5-1<br />
<strong>The</strong> Writing Center offers tutoring, word processing, and Internet<br />
access for students in all subjects. Students may improve their writing<br />
and thinking skills through one-on-one tutoring sessions, group<br />
workshops, and grammar assistance programs. Tutors assist with all<br />
stages of writing such as brainstorming, organizing thoughts, developing<br />
ideas, writing thesis statements, and analyzing texts. Workshops<br />
cover the same areas as well as grammar and punctuation. Students<br />
are also welcome to our Conversation Lab where they can improve<br />
their listening as well as speaking skills in a relaxed environment.<br />
<strong>The</strong> Writing Center hours are Monday through Wednesday 7:00<br />
a.m. - 8:00 p.m., Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., Friday 8:00 a.m.-<br />
2:00 p.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. - 2 p.m. Walk-in and scheduled<br />
appointments are available.<br />

Faculty and Students are automatically assigned an ACE account<br />
which provides access to all ACE systems. <strong>The</strong> ACE systems include<br />
e-mail (MS Exchange), computer lab, academic portal (MS Share-<br />
Point), campus-wide printing (GoPrint), positive attendance tracking<br />
(CI Track/CI Track Web), video streaming (Starbak), and student<br />
referral (CI Track).<br />

<strong>The</strong> programs of this college are approved for the training of veterans<br />
and other eligible persons.<br />
Provisions for Veterans under Public Law 358. To qualify for V.A.<br />
benefits a veteran must have served at least 181 days of active duty,<br />
and have received other than a dishonorable discharge. A veteran may<br />
receive educational benefits of 1 1/2 months for each month or fraction<br />
of a month of creditable active duty. Reduction of this entitlement<br />
will be at the same rate as the training time for which he/she<br />
receives benefits: 1/2 month reduction for each month at the 1/2-time<br />
rate, and one-month reduction for each month of the full-time rate.<br />
All educational benefits must be used within 10 years from the date of<br />
separation: 1/2 month reduction for each month at the 1/2-time rate,<br />
3/4 month reduction for each month at the 3/4-time rate, and onemonth<br />
reduction for each month at the full-time rate.<br />
Admission Requirements for Veterans<br />
1. File application for V.A. Educational Benefits (V.A. Form 22-1990<br />
or 22-8821) and an application for admittance in to the college.<br />
2. Fill out Veterans Card for school records declaring major, transfer<br />
school, and schools previously attended.<br />
3. Request transcripts from all colleges attended. Have them sent<br />
directly to the Admissions Office. This applies even if the attendance<br />
