10 u A <strong>Warm</strong> <strong>Call</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>Hizb</strong> <strong>ut</strong>-<strong>Tahrir</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong><br />

of <strong>the</strong> Messenger :<br />

"Indeed, actions are judged according <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> intentions." They<br />

also claimed that Islam came with general freedoms and ordered people<br />

<strong>to</strong> adhere <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>m, and that Islam is <strong>the</strong> religion of freedom. They<br />

proceeded like <strong>the</strong> Christians before <strong>the</strong>m by saying that <strong>the</strong> spiritual<br />

aspect is <strong>the</strong> spirit as opposed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> body, and that man is <strong>com</strong>posed of<br />

matter and spirit. So <strong>the</strong> spirit should not dominate <strong>the</strong> body and <strong>the</strong><br />

body should not dominate <strong>the</strong> spirit. In this manner <strong>the</strong>y became<br />

confused and bewildered before <strong>the</strong> Kuffar’s challenge. They did not<br />

study problems in order <strong>to</strong> derive sol<strong>ut</strong>ions or <strong>to</strong> study <strong>the</strong> rules in <strong>the</strong><br />

Kitab and Sunnah. Ra<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y adopted <strong>the</strong> West's sol<strong>ut</strong>ions <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>se<br />

problems wholeheartedly. <strong>Muslims</strong> <strong>the</strong>n accepted <strong>the</strong>m as Islamic<br />

sol<strong>ut</strong>ions on <strong>the</strong> basis that Islam does not forbid <strong>the</strong>m. Some adopted<br />

<strong>the</strong>m on <strong>the</strong> basis of <strong>the</strong> opinion of al-Masaalih al-Mursalah as held by<br />

certain Imams, and not according <strong>to</strong> what <strong>the</strong> Qur'an and Hadith had<br />

brought. The Capitalist rules were <strong>the</strong>refore introduced by claiming <strong>the</strong>m<br />

<strong>to</strong> be <strong>from</strong> Islam. It was inevitable that <strong>the</strong> laws in society and <strong>the</strong><br />

societal transactions (Mu’amalat) of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong> would proceed witho<strong>ut</strong><br />

any regard for whe<strong>the</strong>r <strong>the</strong>y were Islamic or not. Thus <strong>the</strong> Capitalist<br />

rules became established and Islam was forgotten. This facilitated <strong>the</strong><br />

changing of <strong>the</strong> <strong>com</strong>mon emotions as long as it was easy <strong>to</strong> change <strong>the</strong><br />

thoughts. Thus aversion <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> strict adherence <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules of Islam<br />

became widespread because <strong>the</strong> people considered it as religious<br />

fanaticism. Then <strong>the</strong> aversion moved <strong>to</strong> en<strong>com</strong>pass <strong>the</strong> discrimination<br />

between <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong> and <strong>the</strong> Kuffar, and between Islam and o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

religions. The concept of 'nationalism' came <strong>to</strong> stir <strong>the</strong> emotions and<br />

<strong>the</strong> Islamic zeal was buried. Thus, showing anger <strong>to</strong>wards any attack on<br />

<strong>the</strong> Qur'an came <strong>to</strong> be seen as a sign of backwardness and decline. This<br />

is because, in <strong>the</strong>ir view, this assault constit<strong>ut</strong>ed impartial scholarly<br />

research. With this <strong>the</strong> Islamic sentiments were wiped o<strong>ut</strong>. Nothing<br />

remained of <strong>the</strong> Islamic emotions except <strong>the</strong> priestly emotions, <strong>the</strong><br />

emotions of worship. This was <strong>the</strong> shocking defeat that <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong><br />

faced before <strong>the</strong> Capitalist system's contest with Islam. This would<br />

almost have been a defeat for Islam, if <strong>the</strong> Islamic thoughts that were<br />

attacked were not in fact correct and true, ra<strong>the</strong>r false as <strong>the</strong> attackers<br />

described <strong>the</strong>m; and on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side, <strong>the</strong> attacking Capitalist thoughts<br />

were not false, as <strong>the</strong>y described <strong>the</strong>m, b<strong>ut</strong> even true and agreed with <strong>the</strong><br />

A <strong>Warm</strong> <strong>Call</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>Hizb</strong> <strong>ut</strong>-<strong>Tahrir</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong> u 11<br />

reality. This would have also been <strong>the</strong> case if <strong>the</strong> Islamic emotions, which<br />

were attacked, were not fit for man in <strong>the</strong> sense that <strong>the</strong>y are emotions<br />

that contradict <strong>the</strong> sublime values and nature of man. If this were <strong>the</strong><br />

case, <strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> defeat would not have been restricted <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Muslims</strong> only,<br />

as regards <strong>the</strong> thoughts <strong>the</strong>y carry, <strong>the</strong> relationships according <strong>to</strong> which<br />

<strong>the</strong>y deal with one ano<strong>the</strong>r, and <strong>the</strong> political situation. Ra<strong>the</strong>r this defeat<br />

would have led <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> eradication of Islam <strong>from</strong> intellectual and<br />

emotional existence in <strong>the</strong> same way as it was removed <strong>from</strong> political<br />

existence. However, <strong>the</strong> reality is contrary <strong>to</strong> that, for <strong>the</strong> defeat before<br />

<strong>the</strong> Capitalist system's crusade against Islam was a defeat of <strong>Muslims</strong> and<br />

not of Islam. That is why <strong>the</strong> fac<strong>to</strong>rs of waging <strong>the</strong> attack again against<br />

<strong>the</strong> Capitalist system and Kufr still exist <strong>the</strong> same way <strong>the</strong>y existed when<br />

<strong>the</strong>y defeated Kufr and Kuffar. These fac<strong>to</strong>rs are <strong>the</strong> thoughts and<br />

emotions of Islam. This is what gives reason for hope and reminds us of<br />

<strong>the</strong> days of vic<strong>to</strong>ry, instigates <strong>the</strong> revival, moves <strong>the</strong> human disposition<br />

(FiTrah) and makes <strong>the</strong> return <strong>to</strong> carrying <strong>the</strong> Islamic Da’wah <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

world an impending reality and not just a desire and yearning.<br />

As for <strong>the</strong> thoughts of Islam being <strong>the</strong> only true and correct thoughts,<br />

and <strong>the</strong> Capitalist aggressor's thoughts being false and untrue, this is<br />

proven <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> reality of <strong>the</strong> thoughts <strong>the</strong>mselves. Thus, <strong>the</strong> Capitalist<br />

thoughts that consider polygamy a mistake, while considering it correct<br />

<strong>to</strong> restrict <strong>the</strong> man <strong>to</strong> one wife, are sol<strong>ut</strong>ions applied <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> reality of<br />

<strong>the</strong> human being and not some logical hypo<strong>the</strong>ses. So where exists a<br />

society in <strong>the</strong> world, in which <strong>the</strong>re is no more than one woman for a<br />

man There is no society in <strong>the</strong> world where <strong>the</strong>re aren't at least some<br />

men who have more than one wife. However, some of <strong>the</strong>m call <strong>the</strong>ir<br />

partners mistresses or girlfriends and some of <strong>the</strong>m call <strong>the</strong>m wives. Do<br />

<strong>the</strong> rules allowing polygamy, which leave <strong>the</strong> choice for a man <strong>to</strong> practise<br />

it or leave it, thus making <strong>the</strong> second, third or fourth woman a legally<br />

recognised wife and not a mistress or girlfriend, do <strong>the</strong>y agree with <strong>the</strong><br />

natural disposition (FiTrah) of man and address <strong>the</strong> problem Or do <strong>the</strong><br />

rules that prohibit polygamy agree with <strong>the</strong> natural disposition (FiTrah)<br />

of man and solve <strong>the</strong> problem This is particularly when <strong>the</strong>y remain<br />

silent at having relations with more than a woman illegally,. since it is not<br />

allowed more than one. Or is making <strong>the</strong> living <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r of spouses one<br />

of <strong>com</strong>panionship and choice:<br />
