English Program<br />

PS 901 Research Methodology<br />

General Characteristics, objectives and goals of research; various types and stages of research; determination<br />

of research issue/objectives; literature review; research planning; data collection and analysis;<br />

research findings presentation and research report writing.<br />

PS 902 Scope and Method<br />

Scope and method specific to the discipline related to the students dissertation; current methodology<br />

used by the academic in the discipline leading to the dissertation.<br />

PS 903 Quantitative Analysis<br />

Basic knowledge concerning sources and type of data, methods of presentation and analysis; measurement<br />

and tests for validity and reliability, including interpretation of statistical results.<br />

PS904 Qualitative Research<br />

General characteristics and type of qualitative research, participant and non- participant observation,<br />

brainstorming, in-depth interview, focus group, and participatory action research.<br />

PS905 Statistics for Research<br />

Statistics and types of Research; descriptive statistics and the level of measurement of the variables;<br />

statistics for trend analysis; bivariate statistics; logic of multivariate statistics; applications of statistics<br />

to research, including proper ways of presentation and interpretation of the statistics results.<br />

PS 906 Evaluation Research<br />

Meanings and characteristics of evaluation; qualitative and quantitative approaches; stages of evaluation<br />

of theories and models of evaluation; sources of data and data processing; measurement construction,<br />

analysis and interpretation of the findings; the structure of evaluation report, and presentation<br />

of the evaluation results.<br />

PS 911 Independent Study I<br />

Students must conduct a study on the topic that leads to the dissertation according to the plan agreed<br />

upon by the thesis advisory committee and closely supervised by an adviser who is recognized as an<br />

expert in the field. The report is no less than 80 pages and must be presented at a seminar organized<br />

by the executive committee of the Ph.D. Program.<br />

PS 912 Independent Study II<br />

Students must conduct a study on the topic that leads to the dissertation according to the plan agreed<br />

upon by the thesis advisory committee and closely supervised by an adviser who is recognized as an<br />

expert in the field. The subject matter must differ from that of the Independent Study I but be related<br />

to the dissertation. The report is no less than 80 pages and must be presented at a seminar organized<br />

by the executive committee of the Ph.D. Program.<br />
