PLAYHOUSE SEASON
2012-2013
Join us for another season of Playhouse! On one weekend
each month, local high school performers bring a beloved
folk or fairytale to life on stage for 3 to 6 year olds. Audience
participation is encouraged during all Playhouse shows,
which take place on our Magic Castle stage. The Teen Arts
Council sponsors the nine monthly original short plays,
presented at 10 and noon on Saturday and once at noon on
Sunday at the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre.

2012-2013
The elementary school residency outreach program is a
unique opportunity for children to experience the world of
theatre hands-on at their own school site. Under the guidance
of a Children’s Theatre outreach director with technical
and costume assistants, students have an opportunity to
learn how to independently manage all aspects of a production.
Students participate on stage as well as taking on vital
back stage responsibilities as a stage manager, handling
props, or running the sound and lights. There are no adults
in the wings at a Children’s Theatre production. Elementary
school Outreach productions are open to 3rd, 4th, and 5th
grade students at the participating elementary school. This

Call for submissions!
Ten Minute Playwriting Contest
Students from 3rd to 12th grade are invited to submit
original plays to the Ten Minute Playwriting Contest, 2013.
Public, private, charter, and home-school students welcomed.
Plays are submitted in three categories: Elementary School
(3rd-5th grade), Middle School (6th-8th grade), and High
School (9th-12th grade). Winning plays receive a workshop
performance directed by a theatre professional. All
playwrights receive prizes donated by the Friends of the Palo
Alto Children’s Theatre and all plays will be recognized at the
workshop performance, followed by a reception sponsored
by the Friends of the Palo Alto Children’s Theatre.
Submissions start date: Monday, October 1st, 2012
Submissions due: Friday, November 30th, 2012
Winners Announced: Wednesday, January 30th, 2013,
6:30pm at the Playwriting Showcase Performance

Ten Minute Playwriting Contest Showcase 2013
Audition for the 2013 Playwriting Contest Showcase! Work
with a professional director to create high-quality workshop
performances of the Playwriting Contest’s winning plays!
Auditions: December 5th and 6th, 2012, from 4pm-6pm,
open to students from 8th grade to 12th grade
No preparation necessary. Cold reading and improvisationbased
auditions.
Rehearsals: January 23-30, 2013, alternating days (we will
work with your schedule)
Performance: Wednesday, January 30th, 2013, 6:30pm

The Friends of Palo Alto Children’s Theatre (FOPACT) is a
nonprofit organization founded in 1970 dedicated to supporting
the Children’s Theatre. Many of the Theatre’s most vital
