Ceramics Open Studio<br />
Intermediate/advanced ceramics students choose their own<br />
projects and work at their own pace under the guidance <strong>of</strong><br />
a skilled ceramic artist. The class introduces new ceramics<br />
tools such the potters’ wheel and the clay extruder, as well<br />
as more advanced ceramics techniques used to hand-build<br />
clay vessels and to construct clay sculptures. This class<br />
boosts students’ confidence and skill levels, while building<br />
patience and dedication. Previous experience with clay is<br />

3-D Sculpture<br />
Beginner/intermediate sculptors learn how to plan and realize<br />
additive and subtractive processes using a great variety<br />
<strong>of</strong> materials such as wood, plaster, cloth, plastic, cardboard,<br />
and clay. Inspired by what they learn about great sculptors<br />
like Brancusi, Picasso, and Moore, students learn to use<br />
techniques such as modeling, construction, assemblage,<br />
and carving, to create masterful free-standing realistic<br />
and abstract sculptures. This class builds visualization and<br />

Wheel Throwing<br />
This intermediate/advanced ceramics class introduces the<br />
potter’s wheel as a tool to throw pots, bowls, mugs and<br />
plates. An experienced potter will assist students in experimenting<br />
with different miniature wheels, kick wheels, and<br />
electric wheels to find the kind <strong>of</strong> wheel that best suits each<br />
individual artist. This class boosts students’ confidence and<br />
skill levels while, building patience and dedication. Previous<br />
experience with clay is required–advanced students can use<br />

In this open-ended class, children learn ceramics basics together<br />
with a parent or guardian. Hand-building techniques,<br />
including modeling, pinch, coil, and slab, are introduced<br />
with an emphasis on making unique teapots, cups, mugs,<br />
bowls, and plates each family can use at home. Students <strong>of</strong><br />
all ages develop basic ceramics skills, gain self-confidence,<br />
and have fun. No previous experience with clay is required.<br />

Fun with Sculpture<br />
This introductory sculpture class is for young artists who like<br />
to build! Students lean how to use simple tools to manipulate<br />
a great variety <strong>of</strong> materials such as wood, plaster, cloth,<br />
plastic, cardboard, and clay to make free-standing figures,<br />
animals and abstract constructions. As students plan and<br />
realize 3-D artworks that “work” from all sides, they exercise<br />
their fine motor skills as well as their visualization and planning<br />

about how these techniques were used and improved upon<br />
by master draftsmen throughout art history. Young artists grow<br />
more confident as they learn to make deliberate artistic choices<br />

Who Love to Draw<br />
This is a wonderful class for kids who turn every refrigerator<br />
into a mini art gallery. In a fun and open-ended environment,<br />
students are introduced to techniques like shading,<br />
perspective, and proportioning that help them realize their<br />
artistic visions. Students decide individually if they are more<br />
interested in drawing from life or from imagination, or both.<br />
Young artists leave the class with a set <strong>of</strong> technical drawing<br />
skills that make them feel excited and empowered to<br />
