�� In order to comply with the IP value as specified, the connection of the device needs to be compliant therewith. For this purpose, Delta Light supplies the appropriate waterproof connections together with the fixture �� An IP code is a rating assigned to a product that indicates its level of Ingress Protection, that is, the amount of protection that the enclosure of the product provides against the entry of solid foreign objects (fingers, tools, and so on) and against moisture infiltration (from rain, for example). IP codes have the format IPxx, where the x represent numerals from the coding scheme. The first number in the sequence signifies the degree of protection against the entry of foreign solid objects. The range of available numbers is 0-6. The second number signifies the degree of protection against the entry of moisture and may be anything from 0 through 8 The letter X may be used as an alternative for zero. The protection is greater as the number is higher. Each number in the IP code rating scheme represents a specific test; the higher the number, the more severe the test. Each test has requirements that very tightly control the test procedure and the equipment used. Once the manufacturer has identified the IP code desired for its product - either as required for that type of product by the applicable safety standard or as requested by the company’s marketing department - it can conduct a test program specific to that code. Waterproof connectors are sealed and resist water (IP68), salt spray and debris. Once sealed, they also prevent the capillary problems with wires. They insulate and protect electrical connections from mechanical abuse, wire pull-out and abrasion. Additionally, they serve as an effective wire strain relief. Delta Light uses two types of waterproof connectors depending on the application. The first type is called Duraseal and is used to connect two wires. The other type is called Topflux and is used to connect two or more wires. The Topflux is fitted with a solder ring to ensure a perfect electrical connection at all time. DURASEAL TOPFLUX The waterproof connectors of the Duraseal type are installed with a two step process. First, the terminal and wire are prepared and a crimp tool crimps the terminal to the wire. Then, a heat gun (400°C) is directed at the splice until the terminal insulation is fully covered and the adhesive flows. When working with the Topflux type, allign the stripped conductors and insert them into the Topflux, rotating it between a half and a full turn. This provides you with a mechanical connection, keeping the Topflux from sliding off the conductors. Heat the Topflux (400°C), starting at the copper cone, until the solder flows and is drawn through the cone into the windings of the cone by capillarity.
