The Question
What Was
After a delicious lunch of Roast, Tuna and Veggie Stacks
our distinguished President Chris Young rang the
opening bell to bring the meeting to order.
Pam Davis led the group in the salute to our American
Flag and Harry Rubins provided the last rotary moment
for 2012 – "Any time you have an opportunity to make a
difference in this world and you don’t, then you are
wasting your time on earth."
President Chris then led the group in a moment of
silence for the tragedy that has recently hit Newtown,
Conn.
We are all happy to see Gary Lucas back and decked out in his rotary vest.
Visiting Rotarians: Andrea presented the group with two visiting Rotarians - Pam Davis from
the Sebastopol Club and Mike Kolof from the Santa Rosa Rotary club.
Gary Andrea Derek and Bo
Derek Stefan and Bo Kirschen led the group in a stunning yet long winded version of "Let it
Snow."
Announcements
President Chris rightfully thanked all of the people responsible for bringing together a great
meeting today: Andrea as greeter, Sue Samir for set-up, Bob Zeni for cashier, Jim Valinoti
for photos, Kerry Rego for tickets and Louis Capuano III on bulletin.

Matt and Richard were thanked for the
excellent food service throughout the year and
Janet Codding took up a collection for them.
Matt & Richard with the Grub
Kerry Rego was congratulated on her first book’s arrival and was fined $25 for her success. If
you are interested in a copy she will bring some more to the next meeting.
Kerry launches her new book
Ginny draws the "Cool Kids Diners Club" winners
Ginny Pitts drew names for the seasons first "Cool Kids Diners Club" at Janet Codding’s
house. The lucky winners were Marv Hyman, Arnie Carston and Ken Prouty. Congrats to the
winners; it sure sounds like a fun time. Everyone, please do not show up at Janet’s house in
January – she will be locking the doors.
Bob Zeni has Crab Feed tickets if you are interested, so please get a hold of Bob so that we can
sell out. Casey Williams has some great live auction items available and is always looking for
more. Some of the highlights this year are: a weekend at Mike Merrill’s house in Nevada City,
The Cajun Dinner by King Louie Capuano, a weekend at Ken Dansie’s house in North Carolina
and the 12 months of Dinning. Casey is also looking for someone that he can dump – I mean
"pass the torch" onto for next year’s Crab Feed due to his long awaited presidency.
President Chris thanked everyone for a great Christmas Party at his house on Saturday Night.
He especially wanted to that his wife Lina for all of the cooking and preparation. The night was a
great success and a fun time was had by all.
While President Chris was waiting for Janet Codding to finish whatever she was doing, he
auctioned off a nice Pink Ceramic Bowl that was left at his house. There were no bidders.
However, if this bowl does belong to you and was left at his house, please contact Chris and he
will not charge you (much) to get it back.
Raffle
Before getting to today’s program the raffle was drawn and two different instances occurred. Bob
Zeni got to draw for the marble, but failed miserably by drawing a blue marble. Better luck next
time. Bo Kirschen won a bottle of wine.

Program:
Arnie Carston introduced Dr. Eugene Belogorsky, our speaker for today. Dr. Belogorsky
specializes in sleep disorders. He graduated from Santa Clara and went to Medical School in
Nebraska. He then did his residency at L.A. County Hospital. He has been living in Santa Rosa for
the past 32 years.
Dr. Eugene Belogorsky
Arnie introduces our speaker
The major points of discussion that the doctor clearly wanted us to remember about Sleep Apnea
were that it is very common, can be dangerous, can be easily recognized and is treatable.
It is very important for all of us to have healthy sleep habits. These habits include but are not
limited to:
• Regular Sleep/Wake Schedule
• Relaxing Bedtime Routine
• Exercise Regularly, but not within 3 to 4 hours of sleeping.
There are common things that can be done to improve the quality of sleep that you receive each
night such as:
• Bedroom is only for sleep/sex,
• Go to bed at the same time every night,
• Avoid naps, and
• Get up at the same time every day.
There are common consequences for daytime sleepiness:
• Car accidents increase
• Work related accidents increase
• Poor job performance
• Depression
• Family discord
• Decreased quality of life.
Quality of sleep is very important and limiting the risk factors of life can help in gaining better
sleep. Common risk factors that can be controlled are; obesity, alcohol and smoking. By limiting
these factors you can improve the quality of sleep.
After waking King Louie up at least twice during the discussion, I truly believe that this discussion
topic was very well chosen for the crowd on hand. The Doctor did a great job and I thoroughly
enjoyed the topic.
