The history of the Snickers bar
By Logan Wheeler
6TH GRADE
T
he Snickers bar has
become the most
popular candy bar
in the world.
More money has been
spent on the Snickers bar
than any other candy bar.
It has nougat in the
middle, is topped with
peanuts, and covered in
chocolate.
The Snickers bar was
created in 1930 by Frank
and Ethel Mars, the incorporators
of Mars, a private
U.S. corporation. It has
been a big hit ever since.
Franklin Mars was
born in Minnesota on September
24, 1883. At an
early age, he helped his
mom make candy in their
home kitchen.
After high school,
Frank stated selling candy
and eventually began several
businesses.
In 1911, Frank and his
wife were making candy
out of their Tacoma, Washington
kitchen.
Once 1920 came, Frank
and his wife Ethel moved
to Minnesota and began
the Mar-O-Bar company.
By the end of the 1920s,
the Mars family was very
successful and was on its
way to becoming a world
leader in producing chocolate
snack bars.
In 1934, just a few
years following the invention
of the Snickers bar,
Frank Mars died at the
young age of 50. But his
work continues to live on
in the millions of Mars
candy bars sold every day.
The Snickers bar used
to be called the “Marathon”
bar in the United
Kingdom, but Snickers
Disney World vs. Disneyland
D
isney World and Disneyland
are two very
well known theme
parks in the U.S.A.
Disneyland was the first
park opened by the Disney
Company in 1955, and it is
located in Anaheim, Califor-
Cinderella’s Castle in the Magic
Kingdom park at Disney World.
nia. Disneyland contains
two theme parks called
Disneyland Park and Disney
California Adventure
Park. It also has on-site
themed resort hotels, and a
Downtown Disney shopping
and entertainment
district.
Disney World is much
larger and has been open
since 1971. It has four
parks: Magic Kingdom,
Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood
Studios, and Disney’s Animal
Kingdom. They also
have two water parks, 23
on-site themed resort hotels,
a campground, two
health spas and physical
fitness centers, five golf
courses, and more recreational
and entertainment
attractions including
Downtown Disney, Dis-
ney’s Boardwalk, and the
ESPN Wide World of
Sports Complex. Disney
World is located near Orlando,
Florida.
I asked some middle
school students and teachers
which is their favorite,
Disney World or Disneyland.
Noah Laubach said,
“Disney World, because it
is much bigger, and I like
the rides better.”
I asked Mrs. Knight
which she preferred. “I like
both a lot for different reasons,
so I can’t answer
that,” she said.
Elora Wymore said she
likes Disney World better
because there is more variety.
Ben Smith has never
been to either park, but he
became the name worldwide
in 1990.
I asked Mrs. Dickey’s
opinion about the candy
bar and she said, “Who
doesn’t like Snickers?!”I
totally agree with her. Do
you like Snickers bars?
thinks Disney World would
be more fun. However, he
did think it would be easier
to get around inside Disneyland
because it’s not as
spread out.
I have only been to Disney
World, and it was an
incredible experience. I encourage
you to visit either of
these magical places.
