Enjoy minimum reflection and maximum colour with Pioneer’s 

Direct Colour Filter, a world-first film-type filter which is 

attached directly onto the front of the plasma panel. It 

significantly reduces reflection from outside light as well as 

reflection from the panel itself, typical of conventional filters. 

The new filter is also very thin, making the plasma panel super-thin (only 93 mm), with a 

drastically reduced weight*. Contrast in bright environments is improved by reducing 

unnecessary reflections. Every colour is bold and bright — even in broad daylight.

COLOUR MANAGEMENT 

Pioneer’s exclusive technology works like this: the Deep Waffle-shaped Rib Structure increases the area of light-emitting phosphors 

— increasing the brightness. Each plasma cell is deeper, encapsulated with horizontal ribs so emitted light won’t leak into neighbouring

pixel, this system scans the surrounding 84 pixels to create

Pioneer’s Super CLEAR* Drive technology has been improved and relaunched as Advanced Super CLEAR* Drive. Now with a grey 

scale equivalent of up to 1,920 steps for each colour of RGB, today’s Pioneer Plasma TVs can boast reproduction of up to 7 billion 

colours! Advanced Super CLEAR* Drive employs a new drive control method — Dynamic Bright-up Processing — which dynamically 

controls brightness and constantly monitors the averages and distribution of brightness on-screen. This technology brightens 

medium-bright 

areas that are part of the main image, while 

maintaining low power consumption. Advanced 

Super CLEAR* Drive also eliminates overly high 

reset discharges and eradicates false contour 

noise. Superior noise reduction significantly 

improves the signal-to-noise ratio in less bright 

images. With contrast further intensified, shades 

of grey are enhanced and blackness can be 

reproduced perfectly. That means viewers will 

enjoy brighter and clearer pictures in which every 

nuance is visible, even in the shadows.

DUAL NOISE REDUCTION 

PURE Vision Plasma features two types of noise 

reduction systems: Digital Noise Reduction and 

MPEG Noise Reduction*. Exclusive Digital Noise 

Reduction minimises picture noise correctly for the 

highest image quality. Compared to conventional 

digital noise reduction systems that mistake tricky 

elements from the original source, such as a 

shooting star trail, Pioneer’s Digital Noise Reduction 

controls these mistakes at the base level to 

reproduce images faithful to the original. MPEG 

Noise Reduction reduces mosquito noise unique to 

MPEG compressed video images, an especially 

useful function when viewing digital satellite 

broadcasting.

DIGITAL FLICKER-FREE 

— WITH PROGRESSIVE SCANNING 

A TV image consists of minuscule horizontal lines, known as scan lines. Current PAL 

TV standards count 576 active lines per image frame, but not all 576 scan lines are 

sent simultaneously. Every other line is transmitted alternatively every 1/50 second to 

create one frame every 1/25 second — a process called interlaced scanning. With this 

comparatively slow speed, larger displays will have more apparent image flicker. 

Progressive Scanning contributes to solving this problem by displaying a full set of 

576 lines at once in 1/50 of a second to construct a complete frame. A similar 

approach is applied for NTSC images, which have 480 active lines that will be 

displayed every 1/60 of a second. 

In combination with the Progressive Scan processing, Pioneer’s unique Digital 

Flicker-free technology takes out any flicker from typical interlaced PAL video source 

material, where due to the lower original scanning rate flicker would otherwise easily 

become disturbing. The result? Truly high-quality images, and no more tired eyes! 

HIGH-DEFINITION DISPLAY (TRUE AND WIDE XGA) 

Pioneer Plasma has several times more 

cells on its XGA panel than conventional VGA 

screens so it can accurately display 

computer signals (from PC or MAC). This 

means that Pioneer Plasma TV is more than 

ready for all the new, high-intensity digital formats including High 

Definition DVD-ROM, HDTV (1080i and 720p), Digital Camera, and D-VHS, 

as well as Blu-ray Discs and High Definition broadband contents such as 

Windows Media 9 Series. Pioneer Plasma is also the best equipment to 

enjoy HD1*, Europe’s first HDTV channel. HDTVs high-definition 

technology results in remarkably sharper, richer and more vibrant images 

— with 5 times more picture information compared with standard PAL 

broadcasting. Furthermore, there’s fantastic sound and no analogue 

interference whatsoever. Viewers can enjoy a wide selection of 

programmes (music, sports, shows) on HD1.

The cinematic experience is more than seeing movies on the big screen; 

it’s the quality of the images that leap out of the screen that leave you 

mesmerised. With Advanced PureCinema technology, you will be awed by 

that exact same top quality imagery on your Plasma, only you won’t have 

to leave the house. 

When the video signal originates from a film source, Pioneer’s exclusive 

Plasma PureCinema processing will automatically detect if individual 

interlaced fields are possibly coming from the same original film frame — 

2-2 (PAL) and 2-3 (NTSC) pull-down detection the professionals would call 

it — and consequently restore the exact same image as created for 

projection in the theatre. 

Once the original film frames are recomposed, the “Advanced 

PureCinema” mode even goes one step further: to realize the best 

possible cinematographic viewing experience — and virtually eliminating 

false contours — the refresh rate is changed to 75 Hz (PAL) / 72 Hz (NTSC), 

showing each film frame 3 times. Delivering Home Theatre in the pure 

sense of the words, this mode is optimal for typically film-sourced 

DVD-Video playback.
