Drugs and Cosmetics Act. <strong>The</strong> Department <strong>of</strong><br />

Science and Technology has recognized HPL as<br />

a Scientific and Technological Institution. <strong>The</strong><br />

main objectives <strong>of</strong> establ<strong>is</strong>hing Homoeopathic<br />

Pharmacopoeia Laboratory are as under:<br />

• Laying down <strong>of</strong> standards for identity and<br />

purity <strong>of</strong> Homoeopathic Drugs and finding<br />

out indigenous substitutes for foreign<br />

Drugs.<br />

• Verification <strong>of</strong> Pharmacopoeial standards,<br />

done elsewhere, for adoption or<br />

improvement or updation <strong>of</strong> standards.<br />

• Testing <strong>of</strong> samples <strong>of</strong> Homoeopathic<br />

Drugs, referred by drug control authorities,<br />

port authorities, state Government etc., for<br />

identity and quality under different<br />

prov<strong>is</strong>ions <strong>of</strong> Drugs and cosmetics act and<br />

rules.<br />

• Survey and collection <strong>of</strong> samples <strong>of</strong><br />

Homoeopathic Drugs for verification <strong>of</strong><br />

quality and adulteration trends <strong>of</strong> drugs<br />

marketed.<br />

• Maintaining medicinal plants garden with<br />

preference to plants used in Homoeopathy<br />

alongwith cultivation and introduction <strong>of</strong><br />

medicinal plants.<br />

• Surveying and collecting <strong>of</strong> Medicinal<br />

Plants.<br />

• Imparting orientation in methods <strong>of</strong><br />

standardization, identification and testing<br />

<strong>of</strong> Homoeopathic Drugs and application <strong>of</strong><br />

various prov<strong>is</strong>ion <strong>of</strong> Drugs Act to all India<br />

state / central Government Drug<br />

Authorities, Drug inspectors, Drug<br />

Analysts, Pharmac<strong>is</strong>ts etc.<br />

Standards worked out by the HPL<br />

laboratory are publ<strong>is</strong>hed in the Homoeopathic<br />

Pharmacopoeia <strong>of</strong> India (HPI). Till date 9<br />

Volumes <strong>of</strong> Homoeopathic Pharmacopeia <strong>of</strong><br />

India have been publ<strong>is</strong>hed. A small herbarium<br />

and museum <strong>of</strong> medicinal plants and an<br />

experimental garden <strong>of</strong> medicinal plants<br />

including some rare and very important exotic<br />

medicinal plants has been maintained for the<br />

purpose <strong>of</strong> verification and comparative studies<br />

<strong>of</strong> standards. <strong>The</strong> HPL maintains a seed bank <strong>of</strong><br />

important exotic medicinal plants.<br />

Limited (IMPCL), Mohan (Almora):<br />

<strong>Indian</strong> <strong>Medicine</strong>s Pharmaceutical<br />

Corporation Limited (IMPLCL) <strong>is</strong> a Government<br />

<strong>of</strong> India Enterpr<strong>is</strong>e under the admin<strong>is</strong>trative<br />

control <strong>of</strong> the Department <strong>of</strong> AYUSH to<br />

manufacture and market Ayurvedic and Unani<br />

products (website:www.impclmohan.nic.in). <strong>The</strong><br />

Company, which <strong>is</strong> a ‘MINI RATNA’, ISO<br />

9001:2008 accredited and GMP certified was<br />

incorporated in 1978 and had started commercial<br />

production in 1983. <strong>The</strong> primary objective <strong>of</strong> the<br />

company <strong>is</strong> to manufacture and supply authentic<br />

quality Ayurvedic and Unani products.<br />

<strong>The</strong> formulations are tested in its<br />

competent in-house QC Laboratory as also in<br />

National Accredited laboratories before release.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Uttarakhand based company <strong>is</strong><br />

expanding its capacity under 3 rd Phase<br />

modernization and aim with Eu GMP certification.<br />

Beside supply <strong>of</strong> medicines to to<br />

C.G.H.S., C.C.R.A.S., State Government,<br />

Autonomous bodies etc., the Company <strong>is</strong> gearing<br />

up to enter in the open market. Since 1986-87,<br />

physicians. Mainstreaming <strong>of</strong> AYUSH <strong>is</strong> one <strong>of</strong><br />
