Entries will not be accepted after the August 9th deadline or at the show. <strong>The</strong>re will be no exceptions. After <br />

the deadline, the Committee reserves the right to invite a qualified rider/horse (“Alternate”) to fill any <br />

GENERAL INFORMATION, RULES AND REGULATIONS <br />

EVERY CLASS OFFERED HEREIN IS COVERED BY THE RULES AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE CURRENT <strong>CHSA</strong> <br />

or USEF (when applicable) RULE BOOK, AND WILL BE CONDUCTED AND JUDGED IN ACCORDANCE <br />

THEREWITH. <br />

STATEMENT OF HEALTH REQUIRED FOR ALL HORSES: <br />

For all horses on the grounds of the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> a "Statement of Health" must be signed by a licensed <br />

veterinarian and dated on July 29th, <strong>2013</strong> or later. This form can be found online and in your invitation <br />

package. <br />

• Bring three copies of the statement with you as it must be provided to the <strong>CHSA</strong> Secretary before <br />

they can give you your exhibitor number. <br />

• Be sure to keep one of the copies in your truck or trailer for Statement of Health checks at the gate to <br />

the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> show grounds. <br />

• A "Statement of Health" must be signed by a Licensed Veterinarian and dated on July 29th, <strong>2013</strong> or <br />

later. <br />

• <strong>Have</strong> been enrolled in a regular and consistent program of vaccination against EHV-­‐4/1 with the <br />

most recent booster being within 120 days of the event. <br />

• <strong>Have</strong> not shown symptoms of or been treated for EHV 4/1 within the past 28 days. <br />

• <strong>Have</strong> not been exposed to any horses or ponies that have been treated for or shown symptoms of <br />

EHV 4/1 within the past 28 days <br />

• <strong>Have</strong> a negative Coggins within one year <br />

• <strong>Have</strong> a rabies vaccination within one year <br />

CLASS SHOW REQUIREMENTS: <br />

Each <strong>CHSA</strong> Final’s class must have a minimum of 10 entries to be eligible to run at the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> show and <br />

receive ribbons and prizes. If, at the entry deadline, there are fewer then 10 entries for a class, then the <br />

following will occur: <br />

• Fewer then 10 entries but more then 5 at the entry deadline, the class will run but with no prizes <br />

only ribbons. (ie 5 – 9 entries) <br />

• Fewer then 5 entries the class will not run and entry fees will be refunded. If the entry is only <br />

participating in one class the office fee and stall fees will also be refunded. If the entry is also <br />

participating in other classes only the canceled class fee will be refunded. (ie 4 – 1 entries) <br />

NUMBERS : <br />

Specially assigned numbers for the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> MUST be picked up from the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Secretary before the <br />

competition begins. <strong>The</strong> Show Secretary will be available on Thursday, August 22, from 3:00PM to 6:00PM. <br />

<strong>The</strong> Secretary will also be available during the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> on Friday, August 23, Saturday, August 24, and <br />

Sunday, August 25 from 7:30am — 5pm. <br />

AWARDS : <br />

All classes will be pinned to 10th place. Awards will be presented upon the completion of each final round. <br />

SCRATCHES: <br />

Once entered, no horse or competitor may be withdrawn from the competition without permission of the <br />

<strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee. Any request to scratch must be made in writing and be accompanied by a <br />

confirmation of inability to compete from a Veterinarian or a Physician in the case of a rider's illness or injury <br />

24 hours before the class starts. If approved, a full refund of class entry fees, less a $200 scratch fee will be <br />

sent via USPS within 30 days after the completion of the show. <br />

CHANGE OF HORSE OR PONY: <br />

In order to change the horse or pony being ridden in an Equitation class only, the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Secretary must <br />

be notified in person at least two (2) hours before the start of the class. <br />

NON-­‐NEGOTIABLE CHECKS: <br />

Checks returned by the bank for any reason will be assessed a penalty of $200. Upon notification of a NSF <br />

(non-­‐sufficient funds) check, accounts will be given 7 days to make full payment including penalty, which <br />

must be paid in certified funds, cashier's check or money order. An account not brought current within seven <br />

days will have the entrant's <strong>CHSA</strong> Membership put on hold, withdrawn from entry to the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> and no <br />

points will accumulate until the account is paid. <br />

BAD CREDIT CARDS: <br />

Credit Cards returned by the bank for any reason will be assessed a penalty of $200. Upon notification of a <br />

credit card problem, accounts will be given 7 days to make full payment including penalty, which must be <br />

paid in certified funds, cashier's check or money order. An account not brought current within seven days will <br />

have the entrant's <strong>CHSA</strong> Membership put on hold, withdrawn from entry to the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> and no points <br />

will accumulate until the account is paid. <br />

DISQUALIFICATION: <br />

Any rider/horse going into a class for which they have not qualified, or officially entered, will be fined $200 <br />

and disqualified from any further participation in the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong>. All entry fees will be forfeited in the case of <br />

disqualification. <br />

DISCOURTEOUS BEHAVIOR <br />

Unsportsmanlike conduct or discourteous behavior by any owner, parent, groom, rider or trainer will result <br />

in eviction or disqualification from the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong>. All entry fees and other fees will be forfeited in the case <br />

of disqualification. <br />

CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION: <br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee reserves the right to itself to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to <br />

or arising out of, or incident to the show without claims for damages or recourse of any kind. All questions not <br />

covered in these Rules and Regulations shall be decided by the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee, its decision to be final. <br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee reserves to itself the right to limit or change the number of accepted entries in <br />

any class, to refuse, accept conditionally, or to cancel any entries, disqualify any riders, horses or exhibitors, <br />

prohibit exhibition of entries without any claim for damages; to change any course, to add a dotted line, to <br />

cancel any unfilled classes, or to reschedule classes, after due notice to exhibitors; to change rings or judges as <br />

the competition warrants. <br />

SAFETY: <br />

Protective Headgear is compulsory for riders in all <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> classes and when riding anywhere on the <br />

competition grounds. Adults and Juniors must wear properly fastened protective headgear that meets or <br />

exceeds ASTM/SEI standards for equestrian use and carries the SEI tag. It must be properly fitted with <br />

harness secured. It is the responsibility of the rider, trainer, or parent or guardian of the junior exhibitor, to <br />

see to it that the headgear worn complies with appropriate safety standards and is properly fitted and in good <br />

condition. Any rider violating this rule at any time must immediately be prohibited from further riding until <br />

such headgear is properly in place. <br />

Motorized Vehicles and Golf Carts: Minors who do not have a valid driver’s license which allows them to <br />

operate a motorized vehicle in the state in which they reside will not be permitted to operate a motorized <br />

vehicle of any kind including, but not limited to, golf carts, motorcycles, scooters, or farm utility vehicles on <br />

the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> competition grounds. Minors who have a valid temporary license may operate the above <br />

described motorized vehicles as long as they are accompanied by an adult with a valid driver’s license. <br />

Violations of this rule will be cause for sanctions against the parent(s), guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) who are <br />

responsible for the child committing the offense. Penalties may include exclusion of the child, parent(s), <br />

guardian(s) and/or trainer(s) from the competition grounds for the remainder of the competition and <br />

charges being filed against any of the above individuals. Wheelchairs and other mobility assistance devices <br />

for individuals with disabilities are exempt from this rule. <strong>CHSA</strong> will impose a fine of $250 to any exhibitor <br />

found in violation of the above. In addition, reckless driving of any motorized vehicle by anyone on the show <br />

grounds will be subject to a fine of $250 and expulsion from the show grounds and forfeiture of any prizes <br />

won. Motorcycles are not allowed on the show grounds. <br />

STALLS <br />

If you require stalls for the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> you can find a stall payment form on the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> web site and in <br />

your invitation package. Payment is due with the Stall form by check or online via Paypal/Credit Card. Stalls <br />

are $175 each and are shed style. Stall fees are not refundable unless <strong>CHSA</strong> cancels a class due to fewer then <br />

5 entries. <br />

<strong>The</strong>re are a limited number of stalls and stalls will be assigned as payment is received. Once the stalls <br />

are sold out, Exhibitors will have to make alternative arrangements. <br />

<strong>The</strong> closing date to reserve stalls is August 9th, <strong>2013</strong>. Please complete one form per barn or trainer. <br />

NIGHTWATCH <br />

Night watch is required for each horse for a fee of $12 and is included on the stall payment form. See above. <br />

HAY AND BEDDING <br />

Can be ordered in advance on the Stall Payment form or ordered at the show. See the Show Secretary to place <br />

your order and payment is required at time of order. <br />

DOGS: <br />

All dogs must be leashed only and under control. Dogs are not allowed in cages, pens or other holding <br />

containers. No other animals are allowed on the show grounds. Dogs or other pets are not allowed in the <br />

<strong>CHSA</strong> tent whether leashed or not. <br />

TENTS: <br />

No portable tents, popup tents, umbrellas or any portable structures are allowed within 300 Feet of the show <br />

and schooling rings. <br />

NO ALCOHOL, DRUGS OR FIREARMS ARE ALLOWED ANYWHERE ON THE SHOW GROUNDS. <br />

ACTS OF GOD CLAUSE: <br />

<strong>CHSA</strong> is not responsible for weather or road conditions (including traffic), power outages, acts of God, <br />

criminal activities, economic downturns, political changes, or any other activity, event or condition beyond its <br />

control. <strong>The</strong>re will be no refunds in the event of cancellation of classes due to severe weather or other <br />

emergencies or acts of God. <br />

CONDITIONS OF COMPETITION <br />

Every Class offered herein which is covered by the rules and specifications of the current USEF Rule Book will <br />

be conducted and judged in accordance therewith. <br />

<strong>CHSA</strong> ENTRY AGREEMENT <br />

By entering and signing this entry blank as the Owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Rider, or <br />

Handler, and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I agree that I am <br />

subject to the By-­‐laws and Rules of <strong>CHSA</strong>. I agree to be bound by the By-­‐laws and Rules of <strong>CHSA</strong>. I will accept <br />

as final the decision of the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee on any question arising under the Rules, and agree to <br />

release and hold harmless the competition, <strong>CHSA</strong>, Fox Crossing, LLC, their officials, directors and employees <br />

for any action taken under the Rules. I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or participate under the <br />

Rules, and every horse I am entering is eligible as entered. I also agree that as a condition of and in <br />

consideration of acceptance of entry, <strong>CHSA</strong> may use or assign photographs, videos, audios, cablecasts, or <br />

other likenesses of me and my horse taken during the course of the competition for the promotion, coverage <br />

or benefit of the competition, sport, or <strong>CHSA</strong>. Those likenesses shall not be used to advertise a product and <br />

they may not be used in such a way as to jeopardize Amateur status. I hereby expressly and irrevocably waive <br />

and release any rights in connection with such use, including any claim to compensation, invasion of privacy, <br />

right of publicity, or to misappropriation. <strong>The</strong> construction and application of <strong>CHSA</strong> Rules are governed by the <br />

laws of the State of Connecticut, and any action instituted against <strong>CHSA</strong> must be filed in Connecticut State. <br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee reserves the right to itself to interpret all questions and conditions in regard to <br />

or arising out of, or incident to the show without claims for damages or recourse of any kind. All questions not <br />

covered in these Rules and Regulations shall be decided by the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee; its decision to be <br />

final. <br />

Every horse entered herein for competition will be under the control of the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee and the <br />

Horse Show Management, but the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Committee will in no case be responsible for any loss or <br />

damage that may occur, and it shall be a condition of entry that each exhibitor shall hold the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> <br />

Committee, the horse show and the officials, employees, directors, officers, sponsoring entities of the horse <br />

show and the facilities at which the horse show is held blameless for any loss or accident to his horse(s), <br />

employee(s), or equipment which may occur from sickness, fire or other cause. Should any question or <br />

dispute arise, it shall be referred to the Show Committee whose decision shall be final. <br />

Exhibitors are notified that any discourtesy or disobedience to the judges or officials on the part of an owner, <br />

rider or groom shall disqualify the horse and the owner shall forfeit his entry and other fees. <br />

CLASSES WITH FEWER THAN ELEVEN (11) ENTRIES IN THE FIRST ROUND MAY BE RUN IN ONE ROUND <br />

FALL OF A HORSE/RIDER: <br />

If a horse or rider falls during the first round of a class, the horse/rider is eliminated. If the horse/rider falls <br />

during the second round of a class, they are placed last of the horses/riders competing in that round. <br />

NO MARTINGALES PERMITTED IN ANY FLAT CLASSES. <br />

BRAIDING AND APPROPRIATE DRESS REQUIRED. SHADBELLIES ARE WELCOME IN ALL HUNTER CLASSES <br />

INCLUDING THE HUNTER DERBY, BUT INAPPROPRIATE IN EQUITATION AND PLEASURE CLASSES. <br />

All Classes will be judged by two licensed USEF judges. <br />

Entry Fee: $50. Open only to Exhibitors in Class 10. Judged on Short Stirrup Equitation class specifications. <br />

10. SHORT STIRRUP EQUITATION MEDAL <br />

Entry Fee: $100. Open to riders 12 years and under as of 12/1/12 who have never competed over fences <br />

exceeding 18” in a Recognized show. Course not to exceed ten non-­‐x-­‐rail fences, not to exceed 18”, which <br />

must contain at least two tests from the current USEF Tests 1-­‐8 including sitting trot. May trot or canter. <br />

To be scored under the open numerical judging system. <strong>The</strong> top 10 riders from the first round will return to <br />

jump a second round in reverse order of their scores in the first round; lowest score going first and highest <br />

score going last. Scores from the first round will be added together with the scores of the second round to <br />

determine the placings. In case of a tie for first place only, those with tied scores will jump a third round over <br />

a shortened course to break the tie. In all other ties, the riders will toss a coin for the awards. Only one rider <br />

14. MODIFIED ADULT AMATEUR EQUITATION MEDAL <br />

Entry Fee: $100. Open to Adult Amateur riders who as of 12/1/12 have not shown in classes with fences 3' or <br />

higher at more than three recognized horse shows within the past two show years. Riders in this class may <br />

not compete in any class at the same show where obstacles exceed 2'6". Fences not to exceed 2'6", which <br />

must contain a minimum of two tests from the current USEF Tests 1-­‐8 including sitting trot. <br />

must contain two tests from the current USEF Tests 1-­‐8 including sitting trot. Only one rider per horse/pony. <br />

than Lead Rein. Riders will be asked to walk and trot individually. <strong>The</strong> entries will be judged on the basis of <br />

elementary fundamentals of equitation excluding diagonals. Leaders must be appropriately attired for the <br />

show ring. <br />

discretion. Light contact with the horse’s mouth is recommended. <br />

return to a second round. At the option of the judge, the horses for the second round may be required to hand <br />

<strong>CHSA</strong> HUNTER DERBY CLASSES: <br />

<strong>The</strong> <strong>2013</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> will include a Hunter Derby to be held on Sunday, August 25, <strong>2013</strong>. <br />

Only riders and horses already entered in the <strong>2013</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> may enter into the <strong>2013</strong> <strong>CHSA</strong> Hunter Derby. <br />

<strong>The</strong> Derby will consist of 3 classes with fence heights of: 18”, 2’ and 2’6”. Only 1 entry per horse per height <br />

will be allowed. Entry fee for each horse and rider combination will be $100 per class. Only 20 entries per <br />

class based on time receipt of entry. (ie First Come First Serve) We will keep a wait list. Non-­‐Professional <br />

riders will be pinned as a separate class from Professional riders. Braiding and formal attire strongly <br />

recommended. <br />

<strong>The</strong> 10 highest-­‐scoring horse-­‐and-­‐rider combinations after the first round of each class are eligible to return <br />

for the second round. <strong>The</strong> Non-­‐Professional and Professional rider/horse combination will be pinned <br />

as separate classes based on the total two-­‐round score. For example with 10 riders returning of which 6 are <br />

Non-­‐Professionals they would be pinned 1-­‐6 and the 4 Professional Riders will be pinned 1-­‐4. <br />

Each <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> Hunter Derby class must have a minimum of 10 entries to be eligible to run at <br />

the <strong>CHSA</strong> <strong>Finals</strong> show and receive ribbons and prizes. If, at the entry deadline, there are fewer then 10 <br />

entries for a class, then the following will occur: <br />

• Fewer then 10 entries but more then 5 at the entry deadline, the class will run but with no prizes <br />

awarded only ribbons. (ie 5 – 9 entries) <br />

• Fewer then 5 entries the class will not run and entry fees will be refunded. If the entry is only <br />

participating in one class the office fee and stall fees will also be refunded. If the entry is also <br />

participating in other classes only the canceled class fee will be refunded. (ie 4 – 1 entries) <br />

35. <strong>CHSA</strong> HUNTER DERBY – 18” <br />

Entry Fee: $100. Open to any horse and pony entered in Short Stirrup, Long Stirrup and CT Training Hunter <br />

18”. Fences not to exceed 18”. <br />

<strong>The</strong> first round will be a Classic Working Hunter Style Round and numerically Judged on quality, movement, <br />

jumping style, manners and way of going. <strong>The</strong> top 10 exhibitors from the first round will return to jump a <br />

second round in reverse order of their scores in the first round; lowest score going first and highest score <br />

going last. <br />

<strong>The</strong> second round will be a Handy Hunter Round and shall be numerically Judged on style, soundness, <br />

brilliance and handiness. May be asked for some simple handy hunter type tests. A maximum of 10 bonus <br />

points may be awarded by the Judges to each horse/rider combination for the handiness of the round & the <br />

brilliance of their pace. <br />

<strong>The</strong> first round will be a Classic Working Hunter Style Round and numerically Judged on quality, movement, <br />

jumping style, manners and way of going. <strong>The</strong> top 10 exhibitors from the first round will return to jump a <br />

second round in reverse order of their scores in the first round; lowest score going first and highest score <br />

going last. <br />

<strong>The</strong> second round will be a Handy Hunter Round and shall be numerically Judged on style, soundness, <br />

brilliance and handiness. May be asked for some simple handy hunter type tests. A maximum of 10 bonus <br />

points may be awarded by the Judges to each horse/rider combination for the handiness of the round & the <br />

brilliance of their pace. <br />

Scores from the first round will be added together with the scores of the second round to determine the <br />

placings. In case of a tie for first place only, those with tied scores will jump a third round over a shortened <br />

course to break the tie. In all other ties, the riders will toss a coin for the awards. <br />

Awards: Champion, Reserve Champion and 8 Ribbons and Sashes <br />

Prizes for more than 10 entries: Trophy for Champion and Reserve <br />
