Sidescan TOOLS Many sidescan systems can be controlled inside SIDE SCAN SURVEY. In the Tools menu, select Sidescan Device Control. Settings for Range, Scale, Pinging, and certain gain controls can be sent to the sonar. During data collection, minimizing any gain changes or adjustments is best. A gain change will make the image look “darker”, but can be interpreted as a different bottom type. Know the survey area – and fix the range scale and gains before your start.
