Estuarine System (APES). Research with David G. Kimmel, <strong>East</strong> <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>University</strong>,<br />

2008 - 2010 Historical records and Waikīkī Beach counts for the cubozoan box jellyfish Alatina<br />

moseri (Mayer 1906) in Hawai`i. Manuscript development with Gerald L. Crow,<br />

Brenden S. Holland, Landy Blair, K.W. Bridges, Ralph S. Goto, and Angel Yanagihara.<br />

2005 - 2007 Ephyrae rhopalium numbers and observations of the up-side down jellyfish Cassiopea<br />

Cnidaria: Scyphozoa). Master’s thesis completed with Robert Kinzie III at the<br />

<strong>University</strong> of Hawai`i at Mānoa, Department of Zoology, Honolulu, HI.<br />

2005 Temperature effects on the molecular variety of zooxanthellae within the cnidarian<br />

host Cassiopea. Work completed with Michio Hidaka at the <strong>University</strong> of Ryukyu,<br />

Okinawa Island, Japan.<br />

2003 Hawaiian cultural use of the Hanauma Bay’s most common reef fish. Work completed<br />

at the Hanauma Bay Education Center, HI with Peter Rappa, Elizabeth Kumabe &<br />

Jennifer Barrett.<br />

2002 The spread and growth of Rhizophora mangle (red mangrove) on O`ahu, HI. Used GIS<br />

to determine the distribution of this invasive species. Work completed at the USDA,<br />

Forest Service, Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry, HI with Rod Chimner.<br />

2001 Reinfection of the anemone Aiptasia pulchella by algal symbionts from the anemones<br />

Aiptasia pallida and Anthopleura elegantissima. Studied reinfection and responses of<br />

symbionts to temperature fluxuations. Work completed at the Shannon Point Marine<br />

Center, WA with Gisèle Muller-Parker.<br />

One of 8 students chosen nationwide to participate in the National Science Foundation-funded<br />

Minorities in Marine Science Undergraduate Program (MIMSUP). This 5-month program at the<br />

Shannon Point Marine Center provided an intensive introduction to the marine sciences<br />

(January - June, 2001).<br />
