Just a Thought...
In case you’re wondering, it’s all
my fault! And I would like the
Iceland Volcano Ash clouds to
share the blame! For those of you
on this Mother’s Day who are
leaving Church wondering why the
mothers (or perhaps daughters)
were not speaking today, (as is the Fr. Tom Hurley
custom as Old St. Pat’s), you can
blame it on me. For many years at Old St. Pat’s,
we have enjoyed the insight, wisdom, humor, and
tremendous witness of so many great women who
have honored their mothers, grandmothers, children,
husbands, and faith journey by giving testimony on
this Mother’s Day weekend. For those who are
tremendously disappointed today for having not
heard a Mother’s Day reflection, I am very sorry.
Being detained in Europe due to the ash cloud
craziness and not having my act together when
I finally arrived home, I failed to recruit and ask
enough women to preach in a sufficient amount of
time. I did have the opportunity to talk with our newly
formed Liturgy committee about this and they all
agreed we will be more creative and ready to go for
next year! So you’ll just have to wait until 2011.
Pentecost Sunday, May 23 — two weeks from
today! I hope you are getting the message and you
have marked your calendar for our BIG Pentecost
celebration for Sunday, May 23. We are gathering
for ONE Mass at 11 a.m. for our Mass At The
Crossroads, taking place literally in the intersection of
Des Plaines and Adams. Called to preach by the very
witness of our lives at all the places God intersects
with us, and called to build a more hopeful Church in
the world, we want this gathering to be sacred and,
at the same time, outrageous. PLEASE JOIN US
ON SUNDAY, MAY 23 AND INVITE ANYONE
YOU’D LIKE: THERE WILL BE PLENTY OF ROOM
IN THE STREETS!
One more note: I was told by our staff we just spent
about $4,500 for a wood-worker to spend two full
days in the church repairing all the kneelers and the
deep scratches that have found their way onto
our custom-made pews. Can you please help us
maintain the beauty and sacredness of this Church
we share together
Blessings to you, and Happy Mother’s Day,
