Keeping you safe Operation Thunderflash was a week-long initiative that saw Greater Manchester Police blitz the streets of inner-city Manchester. Over 200 offenders that have caused distress and disruption to this community were arrested. Inspector Steve Palmer from the Longsight and Ardwick Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Our community have told us that they want police in this area to tackle burglary, robbery, antisocial behaviour and serious violent crime, so that is exactly what we will do. “Seeking out and arresting those people who live among us and commit these terrible crimes is our number one priority. I hope the heightened police presence has not made any residents feel alarmed or anxious; the activity we carry out is with the sole intention of making this community a safer place to live and work. “Information passed on to us by the public plays a vital role in helping us get these criminals off the streets. Getting the most out of your rent payments We work hard to make sure your rent payments are spent on the right things and that we always achieve value for money – but we need your help. We have set up a new Value for Money Customer Panel to look at savings and reducing costs, as well as improving the way we do things. The group held their first meeting in May and will continue to meet on the first Monday of each month. There are still a few vacancies for any interested customers, especially those living in Longsight and Rusholme. At the first meeting, the panel was given an 6 introduction to the issue of value for money and how it can be applied to our services. Members were asked to think about which issues were most important to them and what needed to be reviewed first. At the June meeting, members developed an action plan for the panel. Help Stop Tenancy Cheats Do you know someone who: • Is subletting or renting out their home without permission • Is not using their property as their sole or principle home • Has used false documents to get a home What can you do to help We are working hard to track down Tenancy Cheats and ensure that homes are given to people who really need them. Your help in reporting tenancy cheats is important because you can see what is happening in your neighbourhood. • You might know that someone has a home that we don’t know about, or that gave false information in their housing application • You might suspect someone of subletting if you have seen them collect rent from your neighbours • You might be suspicious because the tenants of a property keep changing CALL 0800 028 9575 NOW! *There is a national cash reward scheme for information supplied that leads to the recovery of a property. This reward is £500 and will cover the first 1,000 properties nationally that are recovered. If you prefer, you can provide information anonymously. However, if you would like to be put forward for the £500 potential reward, we will need your details. Please note that these are for use only for the tenancy fraud initiative and will be kept confidential. If you suspect someone is a tenancy cheat, please let us know. It could make a big difference to people in real need. A new ‘view’ from Gorton Local <strong>Eastlands</strong> <strong>Homes</strong> residents, Angela and Tony, are soon to be launching a new magazine, ‘View’. With articles from Manchester’s up and coming comedy writer Alex Wormal and using local talent, View is an A5 magazine full of colour which will celebrate everything that is great about Gorton, past present and future. View magazine will be published every two months, starting this July, so keep an eye on your letter boxes!
