Brewarrina Children's Day - WAMS

ABORIGINAL & TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER

On 17th
August 2006 in conjunction
with Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander
Children’s Day, WAMS held a function at Brewarrina Aboriginal
Health Service for the local children. The goal of the program was:
Healthy Food, Healthy Teeth, Healthy Body - ’GROW UP TO BE A
HEALTHY PERSON’.
The target group was Brewarrina Pre-School, Brewarrina Child Care,
Brewarrina Central School & St. Patrick’s School. 49 children
attended the day comprising 13 x 3 yr olds, 14 x 4 yr olds & 22 from
St. Pats.
Unfortunately only 3 of the
5 groups attended the day.
Child Care & Central School
were unable to attend due
to staff shortages.
Banners & paintings
were hung for
display.
’S DAY
Police, Fire Brigade and Ambulance attended on the day. The
children explored and enjoyed the vehicles and activities provided.

Approval was given from the Shire Council to cordon off the street for
the children’s safety.
Healthy lavash wraps, fresh fruit, water and fruit poppers were
prepared before the children arrived, therefore allowing smooth running
of a healthy lunch.
Disposable cameras were handed out to each group to photograph their
participation.
