RCAM opens to foster workforce and development
The Regional Center for Advanced
Manufacturing – a state-of-the-art
training facility - officially opened in fall 2009.
Designed for industry as part of the Advanced
Manufacturing Partnership (AMP), the facility
is a workforce and economic development
resource for the region. The AMP partnership
is a four-year $15 million grant from the state
of Tennessee.
Courses offered at the RCAM may be
used to fulfill requirements for associate of
applied science degrees and/or technical
certificate programs offered in the following
areas: General Technology, Chemical Process
Operations, Electromechanical Technology,
Electrical Technology, and Welding/Metal
Fabrication. Training also includes two
Eastman Chemical Co. apprenticeship
programs and one Domtar paper company
apprenticeship.
The 27,000-square-foot facility includes
eight labs, a study and testing center, a
computer lab, a lecture room, and four smaller
training rooms.
Northeast State processed more than 1,350
graduation applications for academic year
2009–2010, a 50 percent increase over
academic year 2008–2009.
