Message from the Chair
I
must start with a heartfelt thank you to all members of the Northeast State Community
College Foundation. It is has been my great privilege to serve as chair of the Foundation
these past four years.
My time as chair of the Foundation afforded me a wonderful experience working with
donors, the Board of Directors, faculty and staff to encourage students to make Northeast
State their college of choice. What a thrill it has been to see the College increase in
enrollment, expand its teaching space, and offer more educational opportunities for students.
Our final fall 2010 enrollment tally exceeded 6,700 students. The Northeast State at
Kingsport Academic Village now includes four buildings housing dozens of academic
programs and welcoming thousands of students.
Through the economic instability of recent years, the Foundation dedicates itself to meeting
the demands of our students and economy. We added 10 new scholarships and seven new
members of the President’s Trust during the past year. As of June 30, the Foundation’s financial
reports show net assets totaling $10,286,294, and the Foundation awarded nearly one million
dollars in scholarships to qualified students during the past year. The generosity of our donors,
past and present, rewards the academic achievements of students seeking college degrees.
The difference between attending college or not may revolve around a few hundred dollars — and
those same dollars can change a life forever. The Northeast State Foundation has dedicated itself to
making that difference and continues to change the lives of students throughout the region.
It has been my great privilege to serve as Foundation, and I express my heartfelt thank you
to the Foundation Board of Directors for the dedication, commitment, and support that makes
Northeast State the best educational option for students in the region.
