Calculate Your Ecological Footprint
It is possible to calculate a personal Ecological Footprint, using a 'Footprint
Calculator'.
Designed with the assistance of Mathis Wackernagel, the 'Footprint Calculator'
incorporates all the variables considered when the footprint sizes of cities or
countries is calculated - all in a simple 13 item questionnaire.
Click the globe to download the calculator and save it on the hard-drive of your
computer.
When the download is complete, double click the icon for the 'Footprint
Calculator' on your hard-drive. This will open the questionnaire for you.
Answer the 13 multiple choice questions in the questionnaire to calculate your
personal Ecological Footprint.
When you have completed the questionnaire, click on the 'foot' icon in the top
left-hand corner of the questionnaire.
The size of your Ecological Footprint will automatically appear in the top right
hand corner. This will be in acres (divide by 2.5 to convert to hectares).
Click on other icons at the top of the questionnaire to see:
(i) how many football fields your Ecological Footprint is equivalent to;
(ii) how many planets we would need if everyone in the world had your Ecological
Footprint; and
(iii) how your Ecological Footprint compares with those of people in several
countries.
